First time Ferrari owner here having recently purchased a 2019 Portofino. The car I purchased has the front parking sensor option. I've noticed that while they work well if you're pulling up to wall they don't seem to detect a typical parking curb unless the curb is at least a few inches higher than the front splitter, which of course negates some of the reason for having the sensors in the first place. I also have a 2019 Aston Martin Vantage (which uses Mercedes electronics) and those sensors work very well to let you know if a curb to too high to park over. Just wondered what others have experienced and if there is some adjustment. Thanks in advance!

2020 Portofino owner here. Your assessment is largely correct, though I have had the sensor ping with a curb below the splitter height, but it’s not something I rely on. Also, it’s not that quick to respond so I’ve approached a curb, didn’t hear anything so I kept inching forward, only to hear the warning when I was a couple of inches away.

Also a 2020 Porto owner. I never rely on the front sensor if the curb is too low. The problem is actually not if the curb is very low (then the wheels will hit the obstacle) or high enough to be detected but when it is just high enough to scrape the front underside. Difficult to judge of course, so just go very slowly and stop immediately if you hear something scrape. Or be ultra careful and stop a bit away from the probable obstacle, which is what I do. The sensor works fine when something is high enough, like in my garage.

bmcgin and cyr, thanks for the replies. I probably wouldn't even be asking about this if the sensors didn't work as well as they do on my Aston. With the Aston a curb that will scrape is accurately detected, and a curb where the splitter will just clear is also detected, but the beeping will stop indicating that it's low enough to drive over. FWIW, I was at the my local Ferrari dealer the other day having my annual maintenance done and my service advisor told me this is common complaint. He did tell me that one of his customers angled the sensors downward by a few degrees and that seemed to help. Not sure if there is an adjustment for that or if they came up with some way to shim the sensors slightly. For now I'm just having scrap armor installed! Thanks again.

Scrape Armor does a great job on my Portofino, especially after I had it lowered. On certain concrete pieces at the ends of parking spaces around here, the splitter will slide over without damage but hang up when backing off. The only damage is to the Scrape Armor piece. I put a grinding wheel on my drill and smoothed out the back side so that it can slide over something in reverse more easily.

I will have to get Scrape Armor for my Portofino. My Cali T had the full front video camera option, my Porto has only the sensors. I quickly found the car is longer than I thought and I was clearing parking curbs when I thought I stopped a foot away. Haven't scraped it yet but it's only a matter of time...
