This was news to me, but maybe some may know about it. I was reading today that its now complete and in use. Ihave been checking out the pictures of the track in one of this months UK magazines. It looks great and from what i have read it is complete with blind crests, both fast and tight corners ect ect. Also i was reading the track raises and falls by 31 meters. The track apparently has been approved to be used for F1, i hope there is another GP to the calendar. Surprised its not been discussed on this section recently.
    Here's a link from 2008 i have found of the track. http://www.monchiqueportugal.info/New_F1_Race_Track.html
Has anyone heard of a Portuguese bid for a future F1 even to be held there? If they can build such a track, then why the hell cant Donington and silverstone?

I've always regretted not having made it to Estoril before it was removed from the F1 calendar.

It's a great place. It's really a nice modern track that has a classic feel as opposed to the majority of new tracks. The facilities are excellent too!

In regards to F1 I don't know if that is the aim. The track is certified for F1 by the FIA and I know tests have been run there in the past but I seem to remember reading that the goal wasn't to hold a GP, I could be wrong though.

The track was written up in a recent issue of either Octane or Motor Sport in conjunction with an up coming historic event.
Give the recent experiences of other tracks hosting F1 events they may be well advised to avoid the temptation.

It looks a little reminiscent of Estoril.

We were there this year for the LMS race. I posted photos on the "other" racing thread. Having full access to the entire circuit, at one point we were sitting at the highest spot and actually watched FIVE races taking place on the circuit. This is the place with the swimming pool in the paddock right by the garages! The hotel was not completed, I believe Radisson is showing either late 2010 or 2011. Portimao is a short drive away. Flew into Lisbon and it's a hour and half or so drive south (seems like you are in southern California); Faro is closer (something like 70 km) but flights not as convenient.

    here's a few photos http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253323&highlight=algarve+lms

Rumor is the LMS race will be there again in 2010 - several other series also run there.

I watched a race on TV this year and it was great. I thought to myself that it would make a great F1 track. Hope it happens.
