My 355's door lock striker is a short cylinder with a series of grooves on one side of it to which the teeth on the door lock I presume catch. What is the correct position for these grooves to face? Away from the door or facing the door or some other position. I find that to get my doors to close flush with the rear fender you need quite some pressure on the door handle to open the door. If i move the striker so that the door handle needs just a gentle squeeze to open the door then the door will stand proud maybe 1mm from the rear fender which doesn't look right. Any comments?
Since nobody has replied, I would have the grooves face towards the outside of the car. It sounds like you may need a new one - as when it fails - it is not good. The hitch will get stuck in the grooves and the door will not open. Happened to me, and no matter how hard I pushed on the door, it remained stuck closed. Racambi has the replacement part and failure of the striker is common. If I remember correctly, the striker is not supposed to rotate unless it is getting ready to fail.
Last year I replace the door strikers on my 348. The "teeth" were facing in towards the cabin and one of them was worn VERY badly. So when I put the new strikers on I faced the teeth out toward the door in an effort to prevent wear on the teeth and extend the log of the striker. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q-sponsored-algar-ferrari/453153-348-door-striker-replacement.html
