This is sort of a self benefiting proposal, but how hard would it be to have a car show in Exall Park between Live Oak and Bryan St? I am building 18 townhomes on one project, 14 on another and possibly 32 on one more and possibly 150 condos as well. there are currently 12 projects in the area and it is or will shortly become the new Uptown area as Uptown fills up and people roll over. There is also the City Lights project with 350,000 sqft retail going in at Live Oak/75.

Anyway, I was trying to think of a publicity stunt type thing to draw some attention to the area. I thought about having an Exotic Car Show in the park in the spring/summer and running ads in some local papers and perhaps a radio spot. This would generate some traffic to the area. We could do open houses or parade of homes type stuff too.

would Lambo Dallas, Boardwalk Ferrari/Porsche/Maserati participate? What about individuals? Not sure what the point of the show would be other than to just hang out. Could do trophies etc, but it really isnt a concours show. Just something fun.

Very few small shows are for profit reasons. Most of your small Saturday night cruises are for fun first of all, but money goes to charities. Now some of your big shows like Autorama have COMMERCIAL stamped all over them. Not sure what success you would have with a small show that has a commercial slant. Car shows like this tend to be in the suburbs, so I'm not sure if that would make your idea being in Dallas a great one or a challenge. Never know until you try.

yeah I don't want it to be complicated as it is just for fun. But if I don't "promote" it then I won't get any drive by traffic as I am hoping to do. Also, if it isnt well organized then I won't get participation so hate to promote it then have no participants!

The Observer has wanted to do a downtown car show for years. The problem is that of security. This has been the issue in the past.

I wouldn't bring my car to anything near or in Downtown Dallas that wasn't located inside a secure, guarded facility.

The annual All-British meet that's held at in White Rock park every Spring is a great success. The name is somewhat of a misnomer; all European makes are welcomed. Even an occasional hot rod sneaks in. I'd like to see more Ferraris, especially Vintage/Classic, show up at this.

Fchat and FCA related events, lunches, shows, etc. in Dallas do tend to be rather one-cornered--Far Northwest/Plano. "Owner Demographics", I guess.

A Saturday show and tell Ferrari meet at White Rock followed by lunch at one of the very good neighborhood Italian restaurants could work if 10 or so cars with owners and friends showed up. It would attract LOTS of attention from a nice group of folks--the bicyclists, runners, walkers, etc. who crowd White Rock, which is a beautiful and easily accessible environment.

The MAFFIA Car Club has attended the All British Car Day for several years, now. We have had several Ferraris and a couple of Lamborghini's attend (thanks to Gary Seale and the Gallardo!) in addition to our usual group of Fiats and a couple of Alfa Romeos.

There is a new show in town at the White Rock Lake Festival to be held Saturday, May 7. The MAFFIA club is getting more details on this show and will post it on our website.

As far as waaaayyy downtown, where this condo development is, perhaps a Sunday afternoon show would be acceptable, say from 2 to 4 pm? That way, we could do brunch somewhere, drive to the show and visit for a couple of hours. What do y'all think of that idea?

this is a nice several acre grassy park right off Live Oak. There are $400K condos and townhomes going up everywhere. There isn't much riff raff that would hurt a car especially if everyone was standing right there.

Anyway, just an idea for a get together and a way to draw some attention to the area.

Actually, the monthly get togethers (second tuesday at D&B/Speedzone, first Wednesday lunches) as well as the most recent fine dining event have all been in the South end of Dallas - Walnut/35, Downtown, etc. My experience has been that most of events are close and convenient to where I live - close to downtown.

The roads on that end of downtown are absolutely horrible.....pot holes everywhere and chunks of the road just "missing". I work downtown and drove over to Big Baylor for a Dr. appt and no joke, just got the bmw back from bent rims. And not just one. :(

I remember somebody in the bus./inv. forum (might have been you Jim) saying "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Give it a shot. I've been to your current jobsite and it's a nice neighborhood. Maybe get a permit and do it at the park?

I think you are absolutely correct. For us any event location is a drive. We can actually get to the Georgetown/Austin area in not much more time than it takes to go to the far Northwest/Plano area.

The White Rock Lake area would be a good choice. We've done some 5k runs there the last few months and there's some great spots to "set up shop". Unfortunately, the British Car show is the same day as the San Marino GP so we won't be participating with either the Ferrari or Mercedes group.

Not so much owner demographics, but rather, that's where the people who organize the events live and work. If someone lives out west or south and wants to pull together an event near them, then more power to them. We'll stick it on the calendar :) I think it's a bit much asking someone from (for example) Allen to organize a lunch run in Cleburne nor vice-versa.

re: the car show, the question to answer is "what incentive do the car owners have to show up?" Once you figure that out, then getting them there is easy.

That's exactly what I mean--the places where the majority live and work are the places they will congregate. It's hard for me to make it from East Whiterock to the Northwest Dallas area. I hardly ever see a Ferrari of ANY year in this area---Occasionally read about one spotted cuising the lake.

My father owns an Italian restaurant in Bartonville & I personally think its an great spot for a drive & a meet. There is a tremendous amount of parking, beautiful scenary, VERY light traffic on the weekends, & I can get you guys a group deal if you choose to have lunch there (Say on a Saturday since it doesn't get too busy for lunch).

Tillman: yeah I don't really have a reason for the owners other than it is a get together. I'll try to think of something.
