    Please Help.
After driving my 01 360 spider the other day, I parked my car in the garage. The next morning, I noticed an oil stain under the center of the car. I lifted the car and removed the bottom cover. I noticed it was dripping motor oil close to the mesh under the clutch it seem like its where the transmission joins the motor. A friend told me it might be the crankshaft seal.
Can anyone please tell me what you think it might be? I am attaching a picture of the leak.

I have cleaned it and it originates exactly where it shows on the picture. I checked above just in case. sometimes its a couple of drops, and sometimes it might have about 25 drops

Mine did the same and it was the rear main oil seal.

The seal was cheap ($60).................... but the gearbox has to come off to replace it!!!! That wasn't cheap.

INGPR, the only work done was an oil change done after that just to see if the oil leaking came out clean afterwards and it does. other than that no other work, the clutch and car are working just fine. but I realized I was running with about an extra quart of oil in the engine prior to failure...

Like others have said it is most likely the rear main seal, unfortunately the transmission have to come out to replace it.

You will have to remove the rear main seal cover along with the seal, remove the seal and press the new seal in. If you haven't fitted a rear main seal before I suggest you take it to a machine shop to have it fitted properly or else it may not seat proper.

While you are at it, you should replace the pilot bearing too which requires a pilot bearing puller to get out, but worth the extra minute.

First pic is a picture of the rear main seal after the transmission, pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel is removed. 2nd picture is the rear main seal cover, the cover is a ***** to remove because sealant is used. Would recommend using a plastic spatula to slide in and work you way around it. Probably would recommend changing the oil after the job is done since there is possibility you may introduce foreign material into the crankcase. 3rd picture of the rear main seal installed in the cover. 4th picture show the tool to remove the pilot bearing.

I really appreciate all the information recieved, making my shopping list based on your advise and recomendations. since the transmission is coming down do you think I should replace the clutch and thrust bearing while I'm at it?

Thank you all for your responses and Mrpcar your pictures are of great help...

I bought the car in March with 43k miles, Ive driven it for abot 3k just once while driving in automode it shifted to neutral after driving it for a while. In order to conserve clutch I drive it in manual mode. but I thought since im getting in that area I should start with a new clutch so that I can keep track of it. Also when the car has not been used for a few days, the reverse will not engage unless its engaged from 1st gear, once i run it a little bit it will engage normally again

I would wait till its apart then decide if you need a new clutch or TO bearing. :):)

The clutch may still be like new after 3K miles. :):)

Strange issue with reverse not engaging when not driven for a few days. :):)

True. Take it to the dealer for a PIS test.

Do you have access to a SD 2 or SD3?

Without it you will not be able to reset the clutch wear and PIS setting which is necessary after a new clutch install.

Mechanically you can remove the transmission and replace the clutch on a F1 car without it. You can even bleed the clutch so the car will be drivable without the SD2 but the clutch will not function properly without the SD2 tool for the computer adjustment.
