Fiat is relaunching the Dino nameplate and doing so on the cheap by using a Lotus Elise chassis. Car to be introduced in 2011. I could see Maserati taking it further by adding a new engine, exterior styling and interior luxuries and bingo you have a new Maserati sports car. While I'd love to see a 100% Maserati car, working off the alreaday great Elise baseline to save costs does seem like a viable option. Nothing to back this up other than putting 2 and 2 together, but from a cost standpoint it does make sense.

Squeeze an alfa V-6 into the engine bay and we'll finally have an Italian alternative to the boxster-tt-z4-slk but don't make it too heavy with luxury bs....

Having spent a weekend with an Elise, I don't see how it could be turned into a decent Maserati. Hard ride, noise, vibration, harshness, not much luggage room, hard to get in/out. I mean I had a great time driving it but it is a Lotus. I don't know how Tesla changed some of those qualities for their car but I just don't see it being a good Maserati. A new Lancia Stratos on the other hand ...
