Guy truly was a genius. Even if you gave me a thousand years and all of the parts required to make the things he created, you’d end up with a pile of junk...
U2driver, Agree completely. You want a jet fighter - P-80 / F-80 (T-33) first sketch to first flight 180 days! First U2 start with F-104 put on glider wings, rework the back end - good to go! SR-71 with a slide rule, a brain and a good team. I look forward to more pictures - that's a great view. Regards, Art S.
I'll admit Porter seem a bit rag tag sometimes, but avoiding the YYZ hell is a nice change now and then. Sent from my SM-N950W using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Hey! Agreed on both counts though, sadly. As for the golf-ball type thing, yup, that's our doppler nutfryer (read radar). Left on vacation for a week, and come back to this weather mess--nice. We were delayed getting on the gate for 20 minutes while they cleared a snow pile "that the airport authority just decided to leave on a gate lead-in line" according to the captain. Very nice. Thank goodness u2driver provided some incredible shots to compensate!
In the beginning. In the beginning. This is how it started. I couldn't resist doing a drawing of it. In the beginning this is what started it. I couldn't resist doing a drawing of it. In the beginning this is what started it. I couldn't help doing a drawing of it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I apologize for the duplications. I had to reduce the file three times and didn't realize that I wasn't deleting the previous post. This system sucks!
Yes, it's a G, the better looking version of the F-104. I'll never forget the striking aerial displays that the RCAF put on with their CF-104's at the Abottsford airshow. One guy did a touch and go every day and I had to imagine that he had his hands full but it was an exciting act. The duct howl when they some maneuvers was eerie.
Was the G made for Germany? Think I read that somewhere. The CF-104 also had the long v. stabilizer, I think.
It has been interesting to watch the U-2 evolve with new engines over the years, including the interim TRs. First heard about it in Model Airplane News in the early 60s and wrote a term paper on the aircraft in 1964. One of my conclusions was that many of the U-2 tasks would be taken over by satellites. My father said that conclusion could not go out of our house when he typed the paper for me. Found out much later he was working on the Keyhole series of satellites at the time, which were really buried in SCI.

Thank you Bob! YYZ is in fact Toronto which is my home airport. As you can see I spend a fair amount of time walking through its hallways.
It was one of those travel days...945pm flight delayed until almost midnight. This put my arrival into Regina SK at 2am. Arrangements to the hotel/unpacking put me in bed at around 330am. 7am ding dong time for work. The flight on the other hand was great! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
