I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for everyone to post their favorite Porsche tools, accessories and upgrades.

I'll start with a couple of tools below.

The jack pads below are great for 996, 997, 991 models. Some people use hockey pucks as jack pads, but the advantage of these is that they lock into the factory jack point by inserting and rotating 90 degrees (just don't forget to remove them after jacking):

The wheel hanger tool below makes it much easier to remove / install wheels (the tool is screwed into the topmost lug hole, then you remove all the remaining lugs while the tool holds the wheel in place, then slide the wheel on / off over the tool (the wheel is supported until you pull it far enough to go past the handle). All for about $15 (shipped!) and it's make out of high quality aluminum:

I had a wheel hanger with my F355. I used it once and thought that it was a total waste. For removal, the wheels stay in place up even after you remove the last top bolt. For mounting you just lift them up and they hang in place before any bolts are unstalled. Same for my Porsches. Why screw/unscrew something else and risk chipping/scratching a wheel?

My favorite tools are two Harbor Freight low profile aluminum jacks and four jackstands. Cost me about $200 all in. They allow the car to be quickly up on four stands and their lightweight makes them easy to manuever with one hand.

Interesting. I can't really comment because the only time I took the wheels off the Porsche was with the tool. For the rears, I could see putting them on without it depending on how well the wheels "hang" by themselves. They didn't seem to hang by themselves very well when I was using the tool, but then again I was relying on the tool to hold them in place. For the fronts it seems pretty difficult to get the holes to align pefectly because the hub isn't under brake and will rotate with the wheel if you don't have the lug/wheel hole alignment perfect. Next time I'll try it without the tool to see how is goes.

I didn't see any possible risk of scratching the wheel with the tool because it goes straight through the lug hole and can't really scratch. I was more concerned about the wheel falling off when it is hanging without lug bolts installed, but I can't say whether that is a real or imagined risk until I try it without the tool.

The risk is when mounting the wheel the tool can go thru the hole and (because it's way longer than any bolt) scratch the wheel. It didn't for me but I saw that if I wasn't careful the wheel could rock on the tool and do some very noticeable damage. Glad it didn't for you either. Just something to think about.
