Worlds best-selling luxury sedan Highest level of brand loyalty in the entire automobile industry Trendsetter for the auto industry with pioneering innovations in automobile safety Stuttgart, Jun 13, 2005 When the last W 220 S-Class rolls off the Sindelfingen production line in August, the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz brand will be able to look back on an unparalleled success story. The current S Class has dominated the luxury segment ever since it was launched on the market in 1998. The car has been the global market leader during its entire lifecycle, with sales of more than 470,000 vehicles. The S-Class currently has a global market share of about 30 percent. Although its had to contend with considerably younger competitors, the S-Class has maintained its leading position worldwide in the luxury sedan segment during its entire lifecycle, says Dr. Eckhard Cordes, member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG, responsible for the Mercedes Car Group. According to Cordes, this assessment applies to all of the most important foreign markets: The S Class remains the Number One luxury automobile in the U.S. and Asia, outpacing its main competitors by a wide margin. The S-Class also enjoys a level of customer loyalty that is absolutely unrivaled throughout the triad markets in the automobile industry, reaching rates of up to 90 percent. In the area of passenger-car safety engineering, the S Class has demonstrated its outstanding role as a trendsetter for the entire auto industry. The latest W 220 series S-Class includes more than 30 new developments, for which a total of 340 patents have been filed. Among the pioneering achievements that heralded in a new era of vehicle safety is the PRE-SAFE occupant protection system, which made its debut in the W 220. PRE-SAFE recognizes impending accidents and takes appropriate measures to protect the occupants in advance. The pioneering system has received numerous awards, including the German Future Prize 2003 and the U.S. Government Award for Safety Engineering Excellence from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Other national and international honors for the S-Class unique features include the Autonis design prize (Auto Strasenverkehr, Germany, in 2002 and other years), Best Car in Its Class (Automobile Club 2002, U.S.) and Most Environmentally Friendly Luxury Car for the S320 CDI (Цko-Trend 2004, Germany).

You're kidding!!!!! The black one looks like an Infiniti/Nissan or Lexus. Even the new CLS line looks like a Lexus product. What happen to the MB distinctive stlye like the w140? You couldn't mistaken it for anything else.
Funny comment regarding the BMW. I think the styling will have to grow on me. I'm looking forward to seeing the advancements and comfort info. I think the rear seating has more room. I don't like the shift on the column.
woah, what ugly rims in the first picture of the first post. Cant MB call some one up for some good rims or something?
Ugly IMO, I would never own another MB. My 2003 SL500 I bought new is a nightmare, rattles, pulls to the left(since new), an overpriced BOMB.
The front is kinda iffy--a little too nondescript, flat, un interesting. I love the back, always loved the Maybach rear, which look very similar. Will have to see one in person, doesnt look all bad though.
hmmm, even though i love mercedes, this one is a little odd looking... although the side shots look awesome, i guess i'll have to see it in person 1st...
Uh...did you see that interior? No radio controls, no heating controls, just a strip of buttons for accessory items and a computer screen. Which is fine by me, I think iDrive is great. But what the hell is that I see between the vents? An analog clock? Tacky!
*sigh* It seems that lately all the Merc cars have look like each other. With the exception of the CLS and SUV's.....the SLK looks like a mixture of the SLR and the SL, only smaller....the CLK looks like a C-class at a glance......arg! And now the new S-class looks more like the Maybach with already looked like an oversized S-class. Anyone see circular logic here? Well.....I guess I'll just have to wait until I see on in person and drive one to find out.
How underwhelming. I've always liked Mercedes, but I don't find the W221 particularly appealing due to the rear end styling (the rest of the car looks fine) and the use of the iDrive system.
