I have seen these postcards advertised. They were described as Official Ferrari (although I don't put a lot by sellers descriptions), and that they were distributed at pre-season F1 testing. However, they don't have any sponsors logos on the back, just plain white with the SF logo. What do other collectors think? Official or not? Anyone know the story behind these cards?

I ask the exact same question when I cruise the eBay listings. Nathan, have you asked Luca Fornetti's opinion?

An update; the 2017 version of these cards have plain backs (no logos at all), which makes me question whether they are official or not?

I have several of those "official" cards. They have the same coating as the confirmed official postcards. Is it not to expensive to make these fake coated cards?
You do not see hundreds of them offered on Ebay. What is strange to me, you see them never unsigned.

Hugo, I guess the coating isn't too difficult for a professional printer, but the actual portraits have the look of official photos (except for 2017) in that they look posed, and not informal paddock type photos. Like you, I have not seen any unsigned.

The portraits are easy to get. Ferrari has them available on their media site in high resolution.

So not difficult to do your own then. That helps confirm my belief that these white back-ground cards are unofficial.

Hi Thomas, Interesting. Can you explain what "a longtime known source at the Scuderia in Maranello" means? You mean someone who works at Ferrari? What department do they work in? Did they explain why they are different from the official cards of those years?
I ask because I contacted Ferrari and I was told categorically that these are NOT official Ferrari, not published by GES.

    Hi Nathan,
I hope you are doing well. It was somebody from GES and he told me that these cards are very very rare because only printed in very low numbers. The last ones shown of Vettel and Räikkönen were only distributed by Ferrari during the tests at Barcelona on February 2017.

Hi Thomas, if they're official I don't understand why they don't have the Scuderia Ferrari logo on them. Can your friend explain that for us? Thanks

... they do have the Scuderia Ferrari logo on it except the last ones from February 2017. Anyway, I will ask and let you know.

Thomas, thanks. That'll be interesting. Any explanation as to why they are all signed. I haven't seen any unsigned ones.
Also, just to complete the list. The 2016 version of these cards were also printed with the backs upside down. So, two print runs?

    Nathan,

Did you get Luca Fornetti's take on this issue?

Hi Rob, Luca was unsure, he thought it was a pre-season type, made for the 1st race only ( or a sponsor event ). But no definite answer.
So we have unoffical, 1st race only, pre-season testing as options.

Finally I have received a message from my source at GES in Maranello that this cards are official one‘s. They were printed in very low numbers and were distributed by the team at the pre-season tests and the first oversea GPs. And only at the first European GP the „normal“ cards as we all know were started to distribute.

For me, these cards are definitely official.

    Best regards

    Tommy
