Hello all! So I have been lurking in the forums for quite a while now and I'm almost to the point where I'm going to make an offer on a 348. Such a huge support structure in place for the 348s which has really helped motivate me to take the plunge!

I am a big DIY guy and currently do all of my work on my own car, which allows me to use an ODBII code scanner to diagnose/fix a lot of problems. I have a 2002 Nissan xTerra.

I have been trying to research but can't really find an answer and have just gotten more confused. Something I wanted to do myself before making an offer on the car is to scan the codes on the car to find out if anything comes back. I'm not sure if I can just use my current OBDII scanner for this or not? Or do I have to look behind the seats at the ECU and read codes that way?

Thank you for any insight you can give to me. Much appreciated.

No OBD on 348s. You'll need to read the codes via the dashboard lights, using the switches by the ECUs. There's a good how-to post here somewhere.

Be aware that 348s throw codes as easily as politicians tell lies so while stored codes are very useful in diagnosing probems they aren't necessarily indicative of the overall condition of the car.

There is OBD, it's just more primative OBD 1 not OBD 2 which started in 1996 on all cars in the USA.

Is it actually OBD I or is it bespoke diagnostics for the Motronics?

Had my spider for 3 years.
Great car. Are the maintenance records good? Pay attention to timing belt replacement, fluid changes, be very careful of the water level in expansion tank when cold, oil level, hot and running. Make sure water temp stays around vertical (195) on the needle, and the fans come on, especially the main fan, drivers side. Check age of tires, and be careful of the parking brake, don't drive with it on. Flush brake/ clutch fluid with key on.
These are just a few things to consider.
Great site and contributors. Good luck.
