Hit a pothole in a GT/4 with the right front wheel, going ~60-70mph.
It was not wide enough for the wheel to fall into it completely,
but it was sufficiently wide and deep that it felt like the shock bottomed out. The impact repositioned the rear view mirror, which is not loose, hence ... quite a strong hit.

Question - what should I check for damage?

The wheel was not bent, the alignment is fine and the car feels as tight as before, but ...

What is the consensus on potholes etc, does one sue the city for damages incurred?

    Thanks

As the alignment is okay it is unlikely that there has been any change in the geometery of the car. I doubt whether the shockabsorber would have suffered any damage as the rebound rubber would have prevented the shockabsorber from "bottoming out" and damaging the foot valve in the base of the shocker.
