I'm getting my car ready for winter storage and wanted to do a couple of things first. My hyper-flow cats are going back to Troy for a rebuild and debating if I should powder coat my headers and leave them out of the clam shells or have Chris Stebb at stainless headers build custom ones ones in the shell like below. I'm on the fence on which option makes the best sense. Chris Stebb headers are around $2900 powder coating around $300 ...opinions?

Also anyone have a link to DIY directions for a coolant flush?

Stainless headers are the way to go. No point in ceramic coating the cheap quality factory headers.

The difference is $2600. I was thinking with the headers out of the clam shell powder coated and wrapped. Along with the cats and tubi it might be cooler and not as failure prone

Headers out of the clam shell will HAVE to be ceramic coated inside and out for the engine bay to deal with the heat.

But you should also know that the materials have a lot to do with the amount of heat soak.
304 has 50% more heat transmission than 321.
mild steel has 300% more heat transmission than 304.

321 (and 347) can deal with being wrapped vastly better than 304 can deal with being wrapped.

Heat from the passenger bank will heat soak the oil sump in the F355.

    Choose your materials wisely.

Thanks Mitch...I am also looking at Ricambi replacements...do you know anything about them? Fit,quality, finish, sound?

Thermal conductivity of mild steel is about triple that of stainless but 321 only slightly edges out 304 in that respect. (though I agree 321 is much better at dealing with this heat over time).

I think the headers first pictured are probably the best option and the nicest I have seen.

If the originals are still in nice shape then having them ceramic coated and deleting the shields is a workable solution but will put more heat into the engine bay as mentioned.

Can you elaborate on the hyper flow rebuild issue? How long did you have them? What indicated the need for rebuild?

    Thank you.

The primaries are retubed by jpexhausts. Fit and sound should be the same.

I dont know for sure they car came with them on it. I bought another set off a Fchat member that were more like a straight pipe and it killed the sound. When the hyper-flows taken off one was rattling so I emailed Troy he told me $1200 turn around time 2 weeks

I agree that mild steel is about 300, but the difference between 321 and 304 should negligible for the same thickness tubing. If anything 321 is about 3% greater than 304 (at about 1000*F) according the AK Steel's data sheets. But for other reasons 321 would be better for headers.
