I'd like to be able to charge my phone in the GT/4 but the power point is the older, smaller diameter size and doesn't fit the charger cord. Is there an adapter available? Thanks.
You need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/BikeMaster-12V-Cigarette-Lighter-TC-6662GA/dp/B004HEUJ3I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1477424689&sr=8-3&keywords=bmw+power+adapter The other alternative (which I did on my car), is to remove the existing cigarette lighter and replace with a traditional outlet. Yeah, it's not original, but I don't care.
Exactly what I did, but some modern chargers don't go deep enough to meet the receiving pin in these so I had to taper mine a few mm more to fit. I love the old lighter and there's more usable 12V in the Hella DIN socket arrangement imo. What I mean by usable is that you can tuck all the wiring away under the dash and place your phone neatly on the shelf behind the gearstick (at least the GTS carb has a nice shelf available for phones). Far more elegant than chargers poking out the cig lighter.
I use this for my iPhone/navigation. Plugs into the socket under the (GTB) dash. Does the GT4 have a socket there? https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Charger-Socket-Angled-Adaptor/dp/B01JCV23WA
I'd love that, but my phone uses the newer USB C and I can't find a Hella DIN for that. I guess I have to wait a while longer until they become more common.
Can you use a different charging cable? https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Durability-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B01GN0M6NE/
Yes, but I'd lose the high amp quick charging. My current setup with the cig socket converter works for now. At some point, the manufacturers will turn out a USB C version for Hella DIN. I'm sure there's plenty of demand from the biker community.
How about this... https://www.foto-express.nl/ultimateaddons-din-hella-socket-dual-usb-charger.html?utm_source=google_shopping
That isn't USB C. This is USB C. It's symmetrical and identical at both ends. So very easy to use. Wired properly, it can pull 3A @5V. Hence the fast charging. It's on the latest Nexus & Pixel phones & tablets, Macbook etc. USB Type-C is here: Faster charging, quicker data, smaller mobiles and the death of AC laptop chargers - Pocket-lint
