New here. I've picked up a lot of info from googling / searching this forum. I picked up my 458 Spider last week. Wow, I it's better than I ever thought - I'm addicted. No buyers remorse here. Can't wait for the UK weather to clear up.

Anyway, question: when in race mode, should I lift/feather the throttle a little when shifting up? If I keep the pedal floored it bounces up a few hundred RPM - sounds great and shifts quick, but is it safe for the car to do so?

    Thanks

You shouldn't lift. RPMs shouldn't "bounce" on up shifts though, it should be a basically seemless rev drop to the next gear.

In any mode. Will lead to very jerky shifts. Not good for the dct.

    Enjoy.

    When in doubt... NAIL IT!!!:D

Anyway, I've never seen a bounce and even in race mode @ WFO, I feel the shifts are quite smooth. If you're having RPM "fluctuations" in the range of a few hundred RPM, keep an eye out and perhaps take it to the dealer. Never seen that in any 458 on up-shifts.

Thanks guys, so it looks like 3 for flooring it, and 1 against?

I'll look at the tach when I drive it next, perhaps it is only 50 - 100 rpm, but it is a very small audible rev blip while the shift occurs - sounds as I would expect.

No. There are 4 for flooring it and 0 against.

Forget everything you know about manual transmissions, it's apples and oranges, with no such thing as "powershifting". The system will blip the throttle, rev match and what not. it is all taken care of, and designed to be run that way. By feathering, you only get jerky shifts and upset handling. When you drive at an easy pace it's the same. Treat your right foot as you would in a car with an automatic i.e, keep a constant throttle position when it shifts.
