power steering in 348 (question)

It would probably be easier (but still a huge job) to fit the power steering system from a Mondial T onto the 348.

{point of comment} On my F355B the steering is very liight, too light to be considered properly weighted. I have considered on this up and comming major to wire-out the PS system and see how it feels unboosted. To do this you couple the PS tubes to each other, and make a similar connection to the rack. This way if you don't like it, you can undo the damage for an hour of labor (or so).

Also note, the front end alignment has +5 degrees of caster unboosted and +7 degrees of caster boosted. Thus a 4-wheel ride height adjustment and corner weighting is prefered to a simple alignment.

 

My steering is light on my 348. Check your tire pressure and brand of tires and tire condition, first.

Remove everything from your front trunk, second.

Change to lightweight rims third (preferably 17" if possible).

Install Girodisc capped 2 piece rotors in front, fourth. These save over 13 pounds! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141825

You can get lightweight steering without adding a new belt and lots of hydraulic fluid onto your 348 by doing the above, first.

 

Why? this is what makes this car better you actually feel the road, mine is pretty ease to move, No Doubt might be right check your tire pressure etc...

I drove Ferrari512tr's (Paolo's) beautiful 348 Spider a few weeks ago and his steering felt 'lighter' than the steering in my 348.

My tyre pressures are 32 psi in the front and I think that is good enough. It must come down to alignment, because I SWEAR my car is heavier to steer.

I remember telling Paolo that his car is easier to drive than mine.

 

I've gotten pretty spoiled to running lightweight Pirelli's at 38 psi in front, and heavy capped (retread) Kuhmo's at 36 psi in the rear. Makes a great combination for drifting! I can get traction on demand in the wet by simply not accelerating in turns with those heavy rear tires. It takes serious effort to break them loose, even in the wet, though it does put a smile on my face each time!
