Would most of you recommend power steering or non power steering on a 355. I will be installing some parts soon and a non power steering rack is on the list. But, I haven't driven one without power steering, so I'd like to get everyone's feedback on it. Just to note, I don't mind the extra effort at low speeds. I also have a 1991 NSX with no power steering, and I'm fine with it. Thanks!

I was unaware that someone offered a standard rack and pinion as a replacement for the power steering on a 355.

It did cause a bunch of fuss (if you do a search, you may find the thread).

Pro-powersteering guys say the steering feel is still awesome, and low speed maneuvrability (sp?) is easy, and that Challenge cars have power steering.

Anti-powersteering guys say it feels crisper, and that it doesn't require that much strength for low speed.

    Personally, I'd go without it.

No power steering was available on a few Euro models if I'm not mistaken Russel.

Either way I'd pick what you truly want. Everyone has a different opinion and personally I'd pick the power steering unless you plan on using this as a track car mainly.

Don't the 355 challenge cars have power steering? What is the big deal over power steering?

A couple of the early 355 road tests mentioned that non-power steering was a no-cost option but none of the test cars seem to have had it. I've often wondered what it would be like.

I've read a couple of tests which compared the 348 and 355 (with PAS) which said that the 355 was better in every way except steering feel - they said the 348 was significantly better in that respect.

From my own experiences with the 355 I think steering feel is the one area where it's a bit lacking (especially compared to the Lotus Elise) so maybe a 355 with non-power would be almost perfect...
