Ok, adventure #2 in just-acquired-'95-355-GTB World. Looks like some joker failed to secure the power steering cap properly (I never checked it until tonight, when I noticed spatters on the deck lid) and I've been spitting fluid for at least some of the ~100 miles I've driven in the past two weeks. There is even some pooling on the garage floor. Photo here:

…at least I think that's ATF fluid - it's brownish-red now after probably getting a good singeing on the block during its way down. (If it's mixed with crankcase-leaked motor oil, I'd rather not talk about that right now.)

I found the excellent reservoir replacement thread - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/292079-how-update-power-steering-tank-355-a.html - and will attempt to take care of that in good order, since I've got a '95 with the o.g. giant cap reservoir.

Question for the forum: am I at a serious fire risk here and should avoid driving until I can get the coolant/atf tanks out of the way and clean up the block as best I can? Or has most of the risk literally drained away since my last drive 2 nights ago? The cap is properly sealed now and I haven't driven the car super-hard at all. Mostly loafing about Seattle with a few spirited interstate runs.

I should've known when it seemed like the whole engine smelled slightly sweet as it was cooling down that something wasn't right…

If its the old.one with a horse on it they leak and need to be replaced.

Search the forums and you'll see the replacment bmw part i ordered mine from pelican parts.

I personally not worry about a fire hazard. Just the mess its just a mess.

I got mine from Pelican. $45 from a BMW e30 325i. It fits perfect. There is a thread on there about it.

Yep, found that DIY thread before and plan to tackle the work, like i mentioned. Thanks for confirming that part at Pelican is the right one - it's a bunch of places and looks the same in each but I never saw a definitive part number.
