Just got a F430 and have a few questions about
    1) The power steering reservoir. The tank (reservoir) in mounted on a bracket that is mounted with some rubber bushings. It allows the tank to move front to back a bit. But it seems to be hitting something so when engine is running it sounds like a rattle.
    A few questions?
    a) Is this normal?
    b) Will it damage the tank? Seems to look like it is plastic or similar material.
    c) What is the corrective action I should take?

    2) The F1 reservoir and items below all seem to be covered in a light dusting of oil residue it looks like it is coming from the reservoir cover overflow tube right angle fitting.
    a) Does this mean the reservoir is too full?
    b) Can the rubber grommet that is in the lid be replaced?

    3) What pump is pumping when you open the drivers door? It seems to run for 5 seconds or so?

I have learned a lot about the F430 on this forum, thanks in advance!

I just recently bought my 2007 F430 as well.

    1. The rattle you hear may be the power steering pump hydraulic line clamp that is rattling against the cross brace (see pic). The reservoir is mounted on a flat bracket so the remedy is simple - just flex the bracket back so that the hydraulic line clamp doesn't touch the cross brace.

    2. When opening the driver's door, the F1 pump is primed so that when you sit in the car, it's ready to start. In the 355 F1, the F1 pump is primed when the ignition is turned on. It should only take about one second. as for the fine misty oil film, I have that as well. Just wipe it down. Check to make sure that the F1 reservoir is not overfilled. Hope this helps you. BTW, there is no dipstick in my reservoir cap.

    Thank you very much.
Don't know how you got the picture, but it clearly shows what was making the noise.
I cleaned up the F1 area as well, I checked the level and it does not look full.
There is no dipstick on mine either.

PS: had fun changing the battery, someone had put in a wet cell that was too tall and so the retaining brackets were just bouncing along with the battery. Don't know how long the plastic cap on the positive would have lasted before shorting to the cross member! I also repaired the factory ASK Amp, the failure was an eight cent transistor killing a $2500 Amp.

Had to take ten shots with my Lumix camera to get that photo!

BTW, what year is your F430? I was told that earlier models had the F1 dipstick.

As for the battery, I hope you considered replacing the wet cell with an AGM battery. That's my next choice which is cheaper than an all lead plate Odyssey battery which I installed on my Maserati Granturismo S (the electronics drain the battery). I would assume you are using a battery maintainer which extends the life of any battery.

What is the factory ASK amp?

    The F430 is a 2007
I put in a Duracell AGM battery of the exact same size as the Fiamm VR760 factory battery.
No battery maintainer yet, I get the F430 out a couple times a week so far.
Under the center of the dash is a leather covered box with black venting which holds the radio amplifier. ASK an Italian company built the amplifier and put Ferrari name and part number on it.

Wow! you are having better driving weather than here. We're experiencing more rain than normal. Last year a group of us did a sunny drive on April 1 to a lake resort for lunch. This year has been mostly rain with the odd day of sunshine only. It's been so unpredictable, can't even arrange a cars and coffee. Glad to hear you're enjoying your new ride.

We are getting great driving weather, but we need rain, the lakes are very low, I can't get the boat out it is so low.
The leather straps in the trunk seem to be very brittle, one of the tire repair kit straps broke and when I picked up the toolkit the handle ripped off just due to its weight. Are you seeing a similar issue?

Can you rotate the line by hand so that the crimp part (protrusion) of that hose clamp isn't hitting? It would be nice if you could get to both ends of it at the same time to rotate it but I am not sure where it goes.

My straps and handles are all OK but I have found that Italian leather in cars, at least, is not the most durable. IMO, the straps are low grade cowhide leather. Our 2008 Lexus has over 62,000 miles and the leather seats still look like new.

In my case, the hydraulic line clamp is sitting firmly on the cross member and therefore does not rattle. If your reservoir rattles, I would probably bend the mounting bracket backwards enough for the line to clear the cross member. The design would imply that it should not be touching IMO.

If the 430 is like the 360 then the correct level for the F1 fluid is 5mm above the screen in the bottom of the reservoir. Ferrari revised this for the 360 and advised owners not to use the dipstick. Obviously they did not put a dipstick in the 430. Pump should run for about 6-8 seconds after door is opened if it has not run for a while.

Thx Alan. I stand corrected about the F1 pump priming time. I count very slow. Also thx for the proper fluid level.
