Junk! I wouldn't do it and it's snake oil. See if they will put into writing about the HP gain. You advance the timing...get bad gas....could blow your engine.

I tried a reputable chip on my 512TR... and I did a dyno (same day), before and after chip install.

and you know what? the aftermarket chip made my engine performe WORSE! when I did my baseline run tests, the hp and torque curves were nice and smooth... all the way up to 7000rpm.

after the chip install, the hp and torque curves were rough, and I even lost about 4-5 hp.

I removed the chips that same day, and I sent them back for a full refund.

don't waste your $$ on those chips..... or if you do, dyno test them before and after install.

Any truth in this statement they have made?

"The 512tr is de-tuned to able to run on the worlds poorest fuel"

I would say it's false. You can change out your exhaust system and pick up power, but beyond that changing the fuel, timing..etc..you are playing with a ticking time bomb with low octane fuel in a high compression engine. Not convinced, buy the chip and see if they will back up in writing that this will do no damage to your car with bad fuel. It's your car.

I had no intention of buying it, just wanted to know if anyone had installed it.

Essentially true. Spark is retarded enough to avoid but not completely eliminate detonation with 87 octane fuel. This is why 93 octane is "required" although a 10:1 compression ratio is not very high. Anti-knock sensors in more modern engines (starting with the 360) allow the spark to be advanced right up to the point of detonation and then backed off within milliseconds.

I have Powerchips in my Mondial t (Motronic 2.5) and must use 93 octane fuel only now but almost everything has gotten better. Torque up 3% across the band, better hot and cold starting.

I don't think I would want to play around with this formula in my car.

10:001 Compression, with advance spark/timing with bad fuel. Doesn't make for a fun day.

I TOO HAD POWER CHIP IN MY 1990 TESTAROSSA. SMOG WAS A MAJOR ISSUE. DID NOT PASS SMOG.. I DID NOT FEEL ANY HUGE POWER GAINS.. A WHILE BACK A MECHANICAL ENGINEER TOLD ME, IF YOU WANT A FASTER CAR BUY A FASTER CAR. ITS CHEAPER THEN AND LESS HEADACHE THEN MODIFYING YOUR FERRARI..

    SMART ADVISE...
    LEAVE IT ALONE MY FRIEND....
