Once again it seems to come down to what kind of car you are looking for. If you intend to drive and enjoy your car, then you do just that-- and address the normal bumps and bruises along the way as you enjoy your investment.

I have bought cars that had paintwork. But to be sure they had impeccable maintenance records. I maintain my cars constantly because I personally do not like to see the "bumps and bruises" .

Of course I want to recover as much $$ as I can when I sell my cars. But, again, I usually buy them because I want to own, enjoy, drive and keep them for some time. Buying a high end car like our Ferraris and keeping them "low mileage" and in "original" pristine condition for the next guy makes little sense to me and frankly robs me of, in this case, the full Ferrari experience. And that seems pointless to me.

To add, it's always amusing to me that the records, like clutch replacement or other major maintenance/service that is simply documented seems more than adequate for most guys purchasing a "new" (to them) Ferrari--- But paintwork? Oh my!
But in reality, who knows how well the maintenance was carried out. Are all the original fasteners replaced? Or did the tech maybe leave out the "non essential" ones because they were hard to get to or deemed unnecessary? Were all the necessary adjustments and torque values observed? Just sayin'...

a well kept barn find is often more valuable than a repaired Ferrari unless it was restored and well documented by some well known / famous Ferrari specialist.

can't compare a 2010 land cruiser to what we are on topic about.

I think Husker was making the point that the Land Cruiser trade in value was extremely generous-- and that the pedigree and paperwork were of no issue as the dealer never even asked to see any records (correct me if I'm wrong Collin).

Barn find? Kind of makes me think of a car that was not driven enough.
When I shopped for my 360 I purposely looked for a car with over 10K miles. That was 4 years ago.

The car I bought had paintwork (expertly done so much so that most pros could not tell- and as a pro myself I could tell) and the maintenance was all done correctly. Having a new clutch @21K miles (I bought it with 21,XXX miles) and a new dash pad installed as well as new brake pads and regular maintenance, I was thrilled to pay the going price at the time. Paint work professionally done... no devaluation to me as the car had a clean Carfax...
Which raises another interesting point; I'm convinced that a lot of guys would pay out of pocket for a minor "accident" as in, a re-spray of a bumper or fender and never report it to the insurance company. Ergo, no Carfax report of any accidents.

Besides, a lot barn finds suffer rodent damage--- Ha!

I had the entire front of my F430 (headlights, bumper, fender, hood) plus mirrors and rockers for $2900 using STEK material by a highly reputable shop in AZ. Turned out amazing, virtually undetectable. This a custom cut on the car, so all edges are wrapped, no seams, no edges.
