Just looking for some comments on some requests that a seller has regarding having a dealership do a PPI on his 355 (which I am considering buying), that involves transport to / from the dealership. I assume that many on this board, as both buyers and sellers, have come across similar requests at some point and am curious to know these were handled / addressed and that they are generally acceptable (I believe they are):

    - You acquire documented confirmation that dealership accepts 100% responsibility for the vehicle from pick up to drop off, and email this to me.
    - All expenses associated with this venture are paid by you regardless of your decision.
    - You provide confirmation of total time frame that the car will be out of my garage
    - You provide confirmation that the car will not be stored outside.
    - You provide confirmation that the car will not be driven (other than to/from trailer). Explicitly stated, "no public roads" (see previous bullet point).
    - You provide round trip enclosed trailer logistics, supplied only by dealership.
    - I am provided a copy of the purchase inspection, which we can then review together.

    Thanks

While I do not see any of these as being out of line, I am really just wondering why the seller doesn't just drive the car to the dealer for the ppi? If he wants to sell it, I would think he would do what it takes to sell the car. It is not like we are talking about a classic '60's Ferrari or an Enzo or something.

How far is the dealer from the seller?

I would not buy that car from that person. There are other fish in the ocean.

Not sure why but I'd have to agree. Something just rubs me wrong. As someone else mentioned, not sure why the owner just doesn't drive the car to the PPI himself if he's that concerned.

Unless the dealer is an insane distance away, I would counter by saying that you understand his concern for the car and prefer that he takes it personally to an arranged appointment where you will be present to pay for the PPI and share the results. That is pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the replies thusfar. The car is located in the snow belt so that is most of the reason why the concern in transporting the car. I hve met the person already and seems very reasonable, just a bit proud of his car.

Although no longer doing PPIs for people, when I did it sems that the buyer accepted full responsibility for the car during it's absence from the owner. FWIW, I never supplied a copy of the PPI to the owner, the buyer had solicited me to perform the task, he received the information, if he cared to share up to him.

    Just my now obselete input.

Agree on the choices of car out there, lots at very good prices, who'd a thought 355s for 35K?

The no public roads jumps out at me. Shouldn't a proper PPI include a short (10-15 mile) drive? Is the car unusually low mileage? IDN, I can understand his point, but still...does he want to sell the car or not?

Agreed - if the current owner wants to see the PPI - let him split the cost.

Agreed. The person doing the PPI should take it out for a test drive. Otherwise you'd miss rattles, brake pulling, CEL lights, etc.

    Agreed.
