PPI cost

What is cost for a PPI on a 3x8? From the archives someone mentioned it took about 4 hours, and assume that the shop rate is $170 per hour, so guess is around $680?

I also read some pro mechanics would take up to 8 hours to do the PPI, that means the PPI would cost around $1,360.

 

I paid $500 for about 5-6 hours. Sal garcia from the bay area did mine

 

my 1988.5 328 GTS was done by the old owner a few weeks ago and he paid $700.00 ..........

 

$300 - $500 is Reasonable $1300 = ridiculous.

PPI should not take 8 hours. It is an inspection not a teardown.

 

A PPI is a two step process. First a safety inspection to look over the brakes, suspension. body or frame damage/repair along with all the externally visible stuff. This normally takes about 2 hours. Assuming the cars passes that part then it moves onto the compression/leakdown which is another 2-3 hour process.

If the car fails step one then it should be no more than $250. Full PPI $500 - $600, no more.
