In the process of buying a 458 Italia in the Long Island area. I can’t make it up to NY for personal reasons so I’ve set an appointment for a PPI at Ferrari of Long Island for early next week. I’ve heard a horror story out of Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale where a PPI was done on a 458 they okay’ed the car saying everything was great but after purchasing and shipping the car to the new owner it came with a bunch of problems. My question here is should I leave the dealership to do the PPI or should I bring it to an independent shop in Long Island for a PPI. I’m in Florida and am not too familiar with the shops in the LI area. Any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In my opinion you should call Berlinetta Motor Cars in Huntington, Long Island. Doug Pirrone has a stellar reputation and knows everything there is to know about Ferraris.

A lot of great shops don't want to get involved in a PPI for the exact reason you pointed out. Most issues are visually notable but anything can happen in the future. The 458 is a great car and easier to find issues with than most. That being said:
Universal Autosport - Farmingdale - Pete
Autosport Designs - Huntington - Tom
    Braden - Deer Park/Babylon
    Scuderia 110 - Port Washington

These are in no particular order - have used first three myself - excellent support/advice and fourth is also highly rated by Ferrari club members.

Where on Long Island is the car?
Long Island is 100 mi long and even longer with traffic!!!
    My two cents
