I am looking at purchasing a 488 and came across a 2016 for sale locally that appears to be meticlously maintained. Albeit, I still wanted to have a piece of mind and request a PPI to be performed. Would it be necessary to have a leakdown/compression test done on a newer vehicle? I contacted a very reputable Ferrari Mechanic locally who told me that although he would do it, it wasn't necessary with only 6000 miles and it being a newer model. He assured all of the systems would be gone through, car would go on the lift, pictures taken and everything else would be performed with the exception of the compression test and bore camera that would be a Stage II PPI.

Does this seem acceptible and would the Stage II PPI be overkill?

As with most things, it depends on the value proposition. If it is $10 extra, why not? But I haven't seen a single post about a 488 engine with issues a bore scope would have spotted.

Have your mechanic spend time on the leather, paint, panel gaps, brakes, tires, battery, and have the buttons been refinished yet?

I wholeheartedly agree. I contacted intially looking for the full PPI and he seemed to have the same opinion as you that it wasn't necessary and he would check paint, all systems, body, underside, etc down the whole list. Appreciate the reply

    1. First thing your technician needs to inspect for is engine oil leaks.
    a. Valve Cover Gaskets
    b. Head Gaskets
    c. Front Cover
    2. Compression test are performed electronically now, if he has the equipment, have him do it for peace of mind. Though, I have not yet had a 488 engine with internal damage / turbo damage that didn't throw a noticeable fault.
    3. Have him visually inspect the turbo, through the intake side. Check for play and or damage.
    4. As a guide, you may have him follow the attached inspection form ( It won't count towards New Power Warranty unless performed at a Ferrari Dealership, but it will help make sure all the boxes are ticked )
    5. Leather , visually check

488 Are good, solid cars, that could be driven daily, take the time to find the right one for you, and enjoy!

Also look under the car regardless if it has a lifter and see if there are any scrapes . Also the vanes on the rear.

It’s a 2016, so those are likely the original tires. Consider their replacement when making your deal...
