Folks, I need a pre-purchase done on a BMW that I bought in Houston. Can anyone recommend someone with whom they have had a good experience who can furnish an independent PPI?

I am using Euro Car Werk tomorrow on by BMW PPI. I will let you know how it goes but I have been there before and all was good.

I would recommend my shop (Euroworld Motorsports) but we are moving to our new location, this week, and our equipment is down.

Next, I highly recommend my good friends at Munich Motorwerke on Fountainview in Houston.
Lewis Allen (the proprietor) has been fixing BMW's EXCLUSIVELY for 35 years. I have referenced his expertise for many years and will continue to do so until he retires. Shouldn't be long, he's almost 60 yrs old and leaves town for a week every month or so.

Just call to schedule an appointment. Tell him Frank sent you.

Mat, Many thanks. Please post me on the outcome. FWIW, The names that I have been given (in addition to that which is posted on this thread) are: Motorwerks Autogroup 832-419-8084; European Performance 281-933-8802.

    Frank,
Texas Direct Auto (the seller) is saying that one of Lewis' guys would have to pick up the car which it seems they cannot do. Lewis was not in but I spoke with Leo. The guys Texas Direct refer, they take the car to them gratis which is easier if a bit unsettling (how do I know they're qualified and objectively independent?). Do you or any of your contacts have any experience with Motorworks Autogroup or European Performance, mentioned above? Thanks again, Rich

I'm afraid I don't know the Motorworks Autogroup, nor European Performance. If you want, I will personally facilitate the PPI with Munich Motorwerke. Even though Lewis is not always available, Leo has worked for Lewis for seven years, now and is very capable.

I'd be willing to go drive the car to Munich, wait for the PPI, and return to Texas Direct for you.

Just trying to help out a fellow enthusiast who can't seem to catch a break. Been there myself many times!

Frank, that is super nice of you. I connected with Lewis later in the day and he connected me with the tow company he trusts. The car will be flat bedded over and back tomorrow (weather permitting) so Lewis can do the PPI. If I get into a jam, I will reach out to you. I really thank you greatly for all your help. Fwi, Lewis spent a fair amount of time speaking with me by phone and sharing appropriate level of concern that suggests to me he will be rigorous in the inspection. That gives me a lot of comfort that if this car is a ticking time bomb, I'll find out before buying . :). Sincere thanks, Rich

Thank you for the kind words, Rich. Nothing special, in Texas. Neighbors help each other, here.

Happy you were able to get ahold of Lewis. He knows how to deal with the scheisters in the industry and he will NOT be kind! I'll follow up with him, tomorrow to help out. Fingers crossed, you might get lucky!

Well this BMW was to be a craigslist purchase and of course I set up the pre- inspection and he did no show up. Text and phone calls and now nothing.

Anyway, Eurowerks was cool about itdespite the fact hat they were squeezing me in last second . A PPI is like $350 but they are thurogh and will keep it all day.

Best of luck, hope you have better experience than me.

Make sure you get a PPI!!! I know you will.

Texas Direct Auto, good overall company but they have sold lemons because they move more cars than any dealership in the world. This is a fact. I know this from a bad experience which they made right in the end.

BMWs are like 355s, non of them are perfect and need some sort of work. It's just the way it is. Have owned three.

Just closing the loop here for everyone. Well as it turns out, this was not the car for me. But on the bright side, I now have two new friends in Houston. Txitalia (Frank) went above and beyond to help me out with this really taking a personal interest in ensuring I was well taken care of and connecting me with Lewis Allen and going so far as to stop by the shop to see the car with his own eyes (I can't imagine a kinder, more neighborly thing to do....which is why we are on FerrariChat). If anyone needs an honest, talented independent for BMW/Audi, Lewis Allen of Munich Motorwerke is the man to see.
