depends on who does it. Do a search for "PPI" and you'll get a TON of returns.

Rule # 1. Make sure the PERSON , not dealership, doing the PPI is up to speed on the car being inspected.
Rule # 2. Make sure there is no " Horse in the race" on the car; the dealer has no interest in the deal.

Here's a link to our PPI menu: http://www.moorespeed.com/mooresports/services/prepurchase/index.html

I'm glad to see you are doing the right thing when buying a car, too many impulse buy and then spend thousands more fixing what they missed upon purchase.

We charge various rates to do the job depending upon the complexity of the car. I.e. a 550 takes a little longer as you must remove the intake to get to two of the spark plugs for the leakdn/compression test, as we remove panels, leak down and compression test. On an average we charge 4 to 6 hours time plus any parts.

We just don't start at one end of the list and work our way to the other. We do some critical pass/no pass checks first and contact the buyer upon those checks if they are marginal or do not pass. For instance, we do a quick once over for suspension/chassis overall condition and signs of paint/body/crash etc. Then we do a engine leak dn.

For example: We did a PPI just yesterday and after putting on a lift, removing the wheels, undertrays and visibly inspecting suspension/chassis/drivetrain, we called the buyer to tell him the car had been wrecked in the front and rear and did he want us to go further......he said do the leakdn and compression test and nothing else before talking again.....we did that test and found one cylinder with a 18% past intake valves, all rest at 4-6%, same cyl. was down 15psi as compared to others on compression test..........called the buyer.....he said do no more. This PPI was for an out of state customer, so we emailed him about 30 photos to boot on the first go round. The buyer told me the seller had told him it was in X condition, but it was really in Y condition. They negotiated a price based upon Y condition..........about $20k less than the original X condition price negotiations. The car sold.

    Hope that helps

a PPI can include anything that you want, including compression testing, as long as the seller is willing to comply.
I paid @600 for a recent PPI on my TestesRoaster and it was well worth it.

Bottom line is this: a PPI will be the LEAST and wisest amount you'll ever spend on your Ferrari!
    Happy hunting! :)

PPI on my Dino at Algar was about $600, a couple of years ago.

The same mechanic who did the PPI has done all the service on my car.

It is critical to get someone who knows what to look for specifically in your car, and the guys at Algar can do that.

As you're a Philly guy, there are a couple of other good sources for a PPI in the area. Don Galbraith Motors in Devon, And Mike Tillson in Phille, 63rd street, I believe.
