When a dealer tells me I can do a "PPI" on his car if I want to what does he mean. I assume it's some sort of test.

If I'm purchasing an F car from a reputable/authorized F car dealer, should I still get a PPI done (by another dealer or independent)?

    Thanks.

Yes, absolutely! No matter how reputable the dealer is there could very well be something they missed. I would never buy a used car, let alone a used exotic, from anyone without having a PPI done by an independent shop.

    Thanks Trent!

I thought I read something awhile back like 'always, always, get a PPI'... just thought I'd check as it seems like some folks don't get 'em which could be a bad idea (or they just know what the heck they're looking at).

    Short answer YES!
I didn't and I bought my car from an authorized Ferrari dealer and as a result I have a car with some history that I would rather not have. I will never buy another car without getting an independent PPI done.

I just went through a 6 month process of lookng for a F355 and went through 5 vehicles beofre finding one without an issue. Pictures are great, records are great, but a compression test and leak down test a must. A PPI will allow you to make the "best" decision possible. Not that you can't still have problems afterwards but it will most likely sniff out a lot of potential or current issues. If you are going to spend $100K or so, a little money invested in insuance of a PPI with a reputable person will be money well spent. Fixing these vehicles is not for the faint of heart.
