So is this mean that after PPI and found out that its not a good deal to purchase the car, you loose $300-$500?

 

Correct, but a PPI is one of the best investments you can make, better to lose $300-500 then to have to deal with 5 figure problems in a Ferrari that was not taken care of.

If the car is bad it is the cheapest 500 you will ever spend. If you buy the car and the inspector did his job he should have found enough items to give you the ability to negotiate the price down by several magnitudes of his fee.

I flew to Sydney last year to look at a 348, because I didnt trust the car sales man with organising the PPI for the car. I paid $890 to fly there to check it out. It was nothing like he told me and im glad I did look at it myself.

 

Yes, and you should have all of these calculated for a used Ferrari prior to purchase. If the car has had potbellied pig issues, you want to know in advance.

However, as this got started on a serious note: here is my serious answer-

I spent (by actual receipts) at least $1500 this summer to drive nearly 1000 miles and do a PPI on a car that I am trying to buy.

It was a great trip, and I got to meet some very nice people, but the real payoff was:

This PPI really truly saved me at least $25,000.

Key words: NO FINANCIAL INTEREST IN THE SALE. Ask me how I know. You don't "lose" money with a PPI, you save yourself huge potential losses. It's a gamble, but there aren't many on this board that will tell you it's not a good idea. Worst case is, you spend the money on the PPI and you find out it's a great car. Your $40k car becomes a $40,300 car.

 

Its better to lose $300 now than to lose $3000 or more later.
