Hi I am looking for a 360 and as advised i wanted to have a PPI done. But the thing is the car I found is in California while I am in east coast and so I would like to know whether there is a way to have the PPI done without me flying to CA to take a car to the dealer for the inspection?

Is it possible to ask the dealer to send me the PPI report by fax/email? Will they usually do it? Of course seeing is believing...but I am not a tech guy and don't know much about mechanics let alone Ferrari. I feel what I see/find out in person about the car would be no more than the cosmetics, e.g. dents, dings, scratches, etc. however any of those could be easily spot by good quality pictures and devices like a paint-meter. So I felt that as a preliminary shortlisting, instead of myself flying to inspect the car in person, it may be more worthwhile to have the professionals at a Ferrari dealer checking out the car via a PPI and send over to me for a review BEFORE deciding whether this car worth a personal visit.

Any suggestions/experience would be very much appreciated!!

    Steve

PS the car is not being advertised by an authorized Ferrari dealer but seems to be by a non-reputable dealer at least to my knowledge.

Should you even be considering buying a car from a 'non-reputable dealer' ?

There's lots of advice here about ppi & distance buying so there should be no need for you to go to the car

While certainly possible, I wouldn't do this remotely.

If you're going to spend north of $100K on a car, buy a ticket... come out to Cali and manage the process yourself. I'd never buy a car like this without seeing/driving it first... or having someone I totally trust see the car first. Photographs will not show you the stuff you need to see... trust me. I've looked at cars on-line and then in-person and the cars looked very different.

You need a factory-authorized or dealer PPI... there are many things that need checking... especially if the 360 you're looking at is older.

I would also have a body shop do a once-over to see if the car has had any significant repair work. Bumper respray and other light work is normal... but not body work.

Your call, but know there's a degree of risk in buying this type of car without covering all your bases.

You may want to post a "does anyone know this car" question in the California regional section of F-Chat. You'd be surprised how well known certain cars are.

I bought my current Techart 996TT sight unseen:

    - Trusted the seller and was sent tons of pics
    - Had reputable local forum members take a look and report back
    - Had the previous owner take the car to dealer of my choice for PPI
    - Since I was paying for PPI, mechanics told me results directly
    - When comfortable, wired the money, and sent a transport to the dealership for pickup

I just purchaed a 360. I had the Ferrari dealer fax me the PPI. Never take chances... Once you send the check, you are looking at flying to CA and legal cost if mis-represented

    Good Luck

And I hope your story has a happy ending.

I still would not recommend buying a Ferrari sight-unseen. Doing so only increases the probability the car won't be what you thought it was (in some way, shape or form) when the truck arrives and your bank account is down 100 large.
