Does anyone have any info on the Red 99 F1 355 at Straight Live Auto in Dallas. Where did it come from, any problems you know of and where would I get a Pre Purchase Inspection from in the area. Thanks, Ray

Mike Luongo at RUF is certainly another option. He just PPI'ed my 355 for the new owner and he was very thorough. http://www.rufautocentre.com/

The folks at Straight Line are good folks, but they buy almost everything at auction. You'll need to do all your own homework to get the details of a particular car. Usually not tough to do, but takes a little leg work.

    Ray,

Both of the opinions above are good suggestions for an inspection on the 355 Spyder you are looking at. In my experience, James is usually pretty backed up at Norwood and you may have to wait to get it in there. Michael Luongo recently left the Lamborghini dealer to work at Ruf and is widely respected as one of the better Ferrari techs in town. In fact, I usually have at least one car there myself at any given time since they moved the Lamborghini dealer up North to the Audi facility and Ruf is much closer & less expensive. I'm not sure how backed up they are for a PPI but its worth a call if you want.

As per that particular car. It was sold by Ferrari/Maserati of Orange County to a client of theirs in Florida. That client recently traded the car in on a new F430. Perhaps he's a member of this board, I don't know. Either way, that is how I got the car. We source several cars each month from that particular dealer. This car is super clean and has a giant stack of service records. Not the most expensive Ferrari we've had lately but one of the cleaner/well serviced and documented ones.

As per Straightline Automotive in general. Very few of the cars in inventory are ever from a dealer auction. In fact, if I had to guess, approximately 10% of the current inventory was sourced through a dealer auction. Furthermore, the only auctions we buy at are Closed Mercedes Sales. Period. We do not buy cars at any open dealer auctions. So, the cars we get at auction are the same ones that any franchise MB dealer would get. Typically, they are corporate owned cars, cars used for executive drivers, promotional vehicles, cars used for test drive events, etc... The other 90% of the cars are sourced from the many (approximately two dozen )franchise and independent dealers around the country that we buy trade-ins from as well as our own trade-ins.

    Thanks,

Jimmy - thanks for clearing up my mistake. I had assumed most were auction cars as at least one of the three I shopped with you was and none of them had records or known history of any kind. I should not have jumped to that conclusion. BTW, I did buy one of the three and it's still in the family and running strong!

    Hey Jimmy,

    Hope all is well.

The 911 I bought from you has been a great car.
