    i have bought a 2003 360 F1. factory warranty expired. car has 1500miles. ferrariNA recommends cam belt change now at 3yr versus 5yrs. my questions is, do you think it is money well spent to do the job now ($4000)or drive the car for a while (1yr+-) assuming no issues, and then spend the money to do the job?

    i welcome and value all input.

    Do a search for the subject of timing belts and there will be enough reading to keep you busy for a week.

    You will find 2 things.

    1. this subject has been talked to death many, many times over

    2. you will find no consensus

    From what I have been told, the biggest problem with the belts are on the late-model low mileage cars. Simply put, a car that has been sitting for a while that then gets driven a lot is the most at risk.

    If you plan on driving the car, I'd get the major done and check into the Ferrari extended warranty.

    Do them now, then you'll be absolutely sure of their condition during those high rpm shifts!

    depends on how you drive your car, but to me, 3 years is too short a period for belt changes...five years is reasonable. If you drive the car real hard, some piece of mind may be worth a big drain in the pocket book..if you dont...save your money

    Do the belts now, it's the cheapest insurance you will ever buy. Cars that sit are much more prone to problems. 1500 miles in three years is bad news for belts, seals, gears, cams, bearings (they rust from not getting lube spread over them regularly.)

    Do the major, drive it, and expect more problems from the disuse in the near future.
