Well this one left me wondering. On page 12 of the isuue, there is a mention that the US Grand Prix brings in more money than the other two races there.

First I thought it was ticket receipts. I checked the IMSP web site only to find that "500" tickets sell for near the same price as F1 tickets, but the F1 race only has near 1/3 the attendance from what I remember. It can't be turkey leg sales, so where is the F1 gross over the other two races there each year. Anyone know for sure.

I read that too. Most attended F1 race as well. I have been to both the Indy 500 and the US F1, and the 500 was way more crowded. We tailgaited and had passes to the Penske skybox. People everywhere camping for the 500. For the F1 we bought ticktets the weekend before and drove down and parked across the street from the track. Wandered the infield with little problem.

I don't have nay hard figures though.

Maybe it's in all of the Ferrari Gear that about 80% of the patrons are wearing....?.....:)

And I would think that with the NASCAR crowd, it wouild be in Beer Sales....?....:)

Actually that's the reason: I read once an article with all the figures and stats. While the Indy and NASCAR crowd is bigger, the F1 folks spend a lot more $$$ on their souvenirs, merchandising, hotels, dinners etc.

Not trying to bash Indycars or NASCAR here, but think about the average fan who supports those sports and who watches F1. Also probably about half the crowd at the USGP is flown in from South America, Canada and Europe and those F1 fans are used to spending a lot more $$$ for their F1 entertainment: The USGP ticket prices are a steal (think about 3 to 5 times the price in Europe) and so it is no wonder they have $$$ left over to spend on partying and souvenirs.
