Ok, i am game. Am willing to setup something FAST. This weekend!! Are you guys game? Meet at my place in Wilton NH (03086) and i will GLADLY show you some fun roads and routes AND a nice casual place for lunch, etc.

    So are you guys game?

Saturday (the 12th) in Wilton NH ay high noon.

If so, e-mail me "steve AT enjoythemusic DOT com" to be added to my Ferrari New England Mailing list and will continue the discussion there.

Oh, and no waivers and no fee. Why, because Enzo would probably have wanted us to ENJOY THE DRIVE and it makes no sense paying some lame annual fee for a grand total of ZERO track days in a year (yes, a direct comment towards a certain organization.

    Hi Steven,
Were it not for the fact that I have to leave on business Sunday and my wife won't be home from her business trip until Friday night (meaning I will have one day to see her before I go) I would be there. If I went on a cruise to your house, she would NOT be a happy camper. I haven't even started the Fcar in 4 days, dying to drive. Have fun without me (boo hoo! sob! sniffle!)

Steve, first off, sounds like a great time. I'd love to do it, but for the fact that I'm currently in Montreal with several dozen New England Ferraristi friends to enjoy the GP and the associated parties.

Re your comment about a certain organization: we've been down this road before.
    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12173

But since you've decided to raise the topic again . . . .

To paraphrase Doody, the FCA holds track events at Watkins Glen, Pocono, Lime Rock, Beaver Run, Summit Point and Tremblant. Yup, track events at EVERY TRACK WITHIN EIGHT HOURS OF YOU, except for NHIS, which not many FCA members have much interest.

But, you're right, no autocross events. See the above link to the thread as to why not. But I'll repeat my invitation - instead of whining about the lack of auto-x events in the FCA, set one up. I'll help you promote the heck out of it. Seriously.

As for whether you get any value out of the "lame ass annual fee" . . . aside from the magazine, newsletter and services you get out of FCA National, there are plenty of local FCA events all driving season long. Care to spend a weekend driving on twisty scenic roads with dozens of other Ferraris? Come to a weekend ramble in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine or Vermont. Tour Newport. Just want a nice drive? Do one of the GP Viewing and rallies. Concours? Come to Tutto Italiano or next weekend's Hartford Concorso (the largest exclusive Ferrari event in New England) - I didn't notice your name on the registration list.

I won't bother repeating my response to your previous complaint - anyone who's really bored can read the whole thing in the above thread.

Sorry if I sound grouchy about this, but I spend a lot of time volunteering my ass off to make the FCA active in this area, and I don't think it's fair to toss in an insulting aside that's just plain WRONG - it demeans volunteers like Chris and Tom and me who've tried to make the club more active with more events for everyone. I don't like the high annual fee either, but instead of complaining, I'm trying to make it of more value to members. You?

Lastly, join the club and sign up for the upcoming FCA track event at Lime Rock. It's the second closest track to you, and it's two days of great fun. I'll even volunteer to be your instructor.

    Dennis,

    >>>Steve, first off, sounds like a great time. I'd love to do it, but for the fact that I'm currently in Montreal with several dozen New England Ferraristi friends to enjoy the GP and the associated parties.<<<

Congrats and nJoy! :) As for track events, within 8 hours... guess i wish for something closer than 2 hours, though am saving up for a large parcel of land for my home and you can bet it will have a multifaceted track on it. Costs be damned!

Please accept my apologies, am kinda cranky recently... and Ferrari surfboards???? Oh geeze! Combined with the few official FNA bits i have received that are embarrassing (at best) and expensive (at worst) and my dislike for anything official Ferrari USA is evident. FULLY support Ferrari UK and of course Ferrari SpA.

i will make NO apologies for being a man of principle who believes in supporting those i agree with, while boycotting those i don't. In fact due to my experience with the border folks of a certain country i actively NEVER purchase ANY product from said country nor have i EVER personally reported on ANY audio show within said country.

FYI: Sent a thank you letter to the gentleman for last weekend's Lincoln MA event on kinda rare NOS Ferrari stationary. Perhaps i am a mix of old honer and newfound Xtreme sport? Will make NO apologies for NOT wanting to be in some old boys club. Formal concourse? NO THANKS! Seeing great race/race-capable automobiles "rotting away" for the sake of visual perfection to garnish a few precious "points"??? While i understand the museum desires and "investment" of it, the whole point there seems like having a beautiful wife but keeping her in a "glass house" and never enjoying her as G-d had intended. Also akin to putting a great race horse out to pasture when it is still FULLY capable.

    >>>But, you're right, no autocross events. <<<

No worries, the BMW and other folks have already been contacting me and there are quite a few upcoming events. Alas, will be the only Ferrari car amidst Honda 2000s, Mazda Miatas, and Beemers. Makes one wonder.... As for setting an event like this up, i CAN DO as i e-mail with one instructor and have met another last week since he was admiring my car as it was parked last week on the street. In fact he visually checked my recent race seat/harness upgrades while another wonderful Ferrari enthusiast gave me some pointers during the Lincoln MA get together.

    And if i may indulge...

As for the "Spirit" (and DEE, please subscribe to Fchat and chime in here)... One of MANY examples... Yesterday was at a small lake/beach and four children were greatly admiring the car as it was parked. Noticed their admiration as we were going to the car to leave the lake. GLADLY showed them the car, gave EACH of the four boys Ferrari stickers (i LITERALLY have purchased HUNDREDS of them), and when the mother of one children mentioned the kid's love of cars i asked the mother if it was ok to take the child on a brief drive. The mother agreed and the kid, wet from the lake, feet all sand(y) and all, hopped in the car as Dee made sure the 4-point harness was secure... and a-driving i did around the lake.

This is but one of MANY examples and just yesterday was at various stores looking to buy a basic $300 digital cam to keep in the car so i can e-mail folks photos of them in the car if they so desire.

    >>>...Come to Tutto Italiano or next weekend's Hartford Concorso (the largest exclusive Ferrari event in New England) - I didn't notice your name on the registration list.<<<

Would have enjoyed attending 2 weekend back BUT... was in NYC that weekend (with DEE actually) covering a major audiophile event and also had arrangements made for others on the staff (see http://www.enjoythemusic.com/hifi2004/ that is well over 20 web pages by three journalists and over 150 photos... and also got to enjoy singer Joan Osborne, met with a member of Microsoft in charge of their Media/music software, and Noel Lee who is owner of Monster Cable and we all know of their Porsche racing team...). As for the other event...

    >>>Sorry if I sound grouchy about this, but I spend a lot of time volunteering my ass off to make the FCA active in this area, and I don't think it's fair to toss in an insulting aside that's just plain WRONG - it demeans volunteers like Chris and Tom and me who've tried to make the club more active with more events for everyone.<<<

You are right, i am wrong. My complaints stem from being burned by FNA and that is unfairly flowing over to anything that is associated with them in ANY way, shape, or form accordingly. Ok, where do i send the check for $??? and how can i help? Will happily donate a year of my efforts (including my photojournalism skills, webmastering, and server space) and see how it pans out. That is a HUGE amount of work and time on my end. Be warned: color me a skeptic, yet a deal/promise is a deal ("break a deal, spin the wheel" as they say in the Mad Max movie).

    >>>I don't like the high annual fee either, but instead of complaining, I'm trying to make it of more value to members. You?<<<

Hmmm... would HAPPILY organize events FOR FREE to people and simply have each person pay actual costs. In fact this weekend's event i am planning on (was going to be a surprise, but what the heck) supplying a few bottles of Dom P as necessary for the mountain top celebration and i would pay ALL fees for everyone pertaining to accessing the mountain (a small $3 per person fee). It IS NOT the money, IT IS THE PRINCIPLE of the matter and being associated with FNA. In my humble opinion, being associated with FNA is a detriment (and Ferrari SpA's recent marketing/licensing is putting a very bad taste in my mouth). That is my opinion and opinions are like as..oles as everyone has one.

    >>>Lastly, join the club and sign up for the upcoming FCA track event at Lime Rock. It's the second closest track to you, and it's two days of great fun. I'll even volunteer to be your instructor.<<<

July 10th WAS going to be my Bday bash, yet that can be set for another day. Am sure all hotels nearby are booked so i will do the tent/sleeping bag thing. Have lived out of my car (literally) so sleeping bag works for me too. Name the time and place and i'll be there.

    Dennis,

Please accept my apologies. Have received a few e-mails (and one call) and have a feeling FCA NE and i are just not "compatible." Will still be a man of my word financially and send in a check, yet do not expect me at most of the get togethers. Will possibly be promoting my own events in the future.

Sorry and all. My fault. My mistake. Guess i prefer something different than others do and that is ok. Seems a few others agree with my desires as well... and naturally there are others who will disagree with me. To each their own and G-d bless.

    Steve:

Just got back to the hotel room, so sorry for the delayed response. Great day in MTL, btw, as the weather was PERFECT. Went to the track to walk the garages -- insanely cool. Took some neat pics, and even got a bus ride around the circuit! The driver was loving it, throwing the bus into the hairpin!

Anyway, a few things to keep in mind.

    a. I have no idea who emailed you or called you, and I don't care - it's my position that the FCA is a club of people who are enthusiastic about the marque, whether they love F1, love classic cars or just want to own the latest thing. I make no judgment calls. If someone loves Ferrari, then I want him or her to feel at home in the club. There is no "qualification" process. Again, it's strictly a volunteer organization, and it's only as good as you and I make it.

    b. Keep in mind that the FCA is NOT, by any means, controlled by Ferrari North America OR the factory. In fact, historically, the FCA has had more than its fair share of dustups with both FNA and F-Spa. In fact, recently, there was a very, very heated debate regarding a certain issue between the club and the other two parties (hint: it's the same one that riled you). So whatever your feelings about FNA, don't attribute it to the club.

    c. Because it's a not-for-profit volunteer organization, pretty much anyone can join. And, hey, some people are a**holes. Some people may think, say, Dennis is a friggin' d*ckhead and don't want to join because they don't want to have anything to do with Dennis - fair enough. But one should not attribute one person's behavior to the entire club generally. If you've been burned by someone in the FCA previously, that may suck, but that doesn't mean that the members in the club now have the same attitude.

    d. Lastly, don't give up. Join the club (info and a link to online registration can be found at www.fca-newengland.org), then come and have some fun. If you don't have a good time, then quite or don't renew. If you do have a good time, and I'm sure you will, consider volunteering. We'd love to have more active members willing to step up.

As to track events, the July event at LRP is part of the Challenge weekend - very cool, but fairly chaotic and no formal instruction. The one three weeks after that (7/30-31) is a regular track event with full instruction available. Either one, you'll have fun.

    vty,

    --Dennis

One question -- Why don't most of you like NHIS? I find it quite an enjoyable track. Plus it's location is such that it makes it the easiest track to reach (LRP still generally requires an overnight stay for me).

Obviously LRP and the Glenn are faster (although LRP has become Nazi-esque in it's sound control), I don't enjoy them "more" per se. Rather, I find that the enjoyment is linked to the organizing club. So far I really enjoy Ian Prout's SCDA events. I prefer not working corners and flaggins as BMWCCA requires, and generally I find that his events are professional, safe, and you get more on-track time.

As far as fun events, why limit it just to Ferrari peeps :) I'm with you, while car shows and judging is fun to some level, I enjoy driving mine too much to have it gone over with somebody wearing some white gloves. Steven, I'm sure you can hang with some of us. We like our $50 steaks AND our $10 hookers (http://nabbs.fbody.com/driversseat/images/PB271880.JPG) ;) Finally, although none of us are hardcore criminals (or anything but STEP 9 drivers...right?), if you haven't done a little fun run with a bunch of fast cars doing some spirited driving...you haven't lived ;)

    Nabbs,

Agreed and am obviously seeking alternatives once i get things in he car finalized. PLEASE POST WEB LINKS to those organizations so everyone can "click and go" :) Have been receiving more e-mail and i guess the old goats need to be let out to pasture. Long live the new flesh (Videodrome reference).

Am still busy getting the car to what i feel are proper specs. Don;t worry, am indeed having some very spirited drives here :) Oh, and yesterday i installed new electronics that includes a vehicle dynamics system so now i have a fluid (and peak hold) computer analysis of the car in motion. Oh, it also plays adult DVDs too. Aint life grand :)

    >>>We like our $50 steaks AND our $10 hookers<<<

In Brazil, heard this from others of course and not from personal experience, that it is $25 steak and $40 hookers (and the girls are MUCH better looking). You know, in life some things are simply worth paying extra for.

    >>>...if you haven't done a little fun run with a bunch of fast cars doing some spirited driving...you haven't lived ;) <<<

AMEN!!! i still wonder why someone would buy a Ferrari only to have it gather dust. But hey, we do indeed live in a world filled with some very strange people... some of us stranger than others :)

Yes those "ladies" were not some of my more proud moments in life. Frankly they were so scary, that I had to snap a picture for posterities sake (when 70 guys refuse a "private" dance from a scandily clad woman, you know something is amiss...perhaps it was their pimp?).

I will say this: the best moment was the drive down. There were 14 cars in tow: myself, 3 350Zs, 2 Evos, 2 911TTs, 1 E55, 1 Lotus, 1 Cayenne, 2 M5s, and 1 AMG V8 Benz of some sort. We taped the ride from Boston to Bridgewater, and although we were not driving totally like maniacs (it was 10AM on a Saturday), the ride was quite fun, and I'm sure more then one person reported some high end cars cannonballing on 93 to the Staties. Everyone was good natured, and many of us even swapped cars to see what the competition had to offer.

What I would like to do in the next 2-3 weeks is organize another mini-fun run (perhaps this time we all bring our significant others to keep the speeds sub-sonic), from the greater Boston area to points North (along the coast). The idea being that we meet somewhere drive together along a semi scenic route to a restaurant where we can then sit, eat, and chat. I love to do these types of things, the only prohibitive measure for myself has always been events that are too far or would require an entire day (I was going to go to the Running of the Bulls today, but it's just too damn far). So I love doing local things...but I'd like to do more then stand around a parking lot. Is this something you might be interested (or even interested in helping plan -- all we really need is a start and end location) in?

The way I figure it, I can let the Z sit around and "save" it for the next owner, or I can enjoy it now. I'd rather do the latter.
