hello i have read old posts on the precat failures. I have tubi exhaust and high flow secondary cats on my 2000. runs great, have had it 2.5 years and it has 28000 on it now. got it with 21000. how many have had a precat let loose and do engine in? Is it high priority to gut them?? really not into removing and gutting not to mention it will be louder. comments appreciated

Never seen a precat failure on a 360 that ran correctly.

I take your word Brian but many of us are the second or third owners. I cannot vouch for any of the previous owners. I jusy spent ovet $6K for a complete major incl a new heat exchanger swap. So now i have a starting point for myself. A lot of these cars were initially leased so the owners knew it was wham bam for three years and so on.

Chronic engine misfiring with disregard to a permanent repair is most likely the cause of a pre-cat failure.

Does not need to be a miss. Anything causing excess hydrocarbons. Poor cam timing is a common and often undetected cause.

You are right but if you care to go to the trouble damage can be detected. It is not as though it is impossible to detect, difficult maybe even expensive but not impossible.

Personally my car is loud enough with the tubi. I don't want it any louder and I don't need any more power. So I will keep her healthy and maybe have luck on my side.

One other thing to consider is that due to the folklore associated with the pre-cat new buyers expect it to be changed as a precaution. If you don't they think that's an expense they have to finance and if you have changed it then they say, oh that car has been 'sorted'. You yourself have seen those comments on this forum.

My 360 (euro) had no pre-cats. With Tubi and Hyperflow cats it was nice. Not too loud.

Has anybody tried the new Fabspeed "Catted" O2 extenders to mitigate CEL issues ?

Fabspeed headers on an 03 360. Without the big daddies I did get a cel every couple hundred miles. I do have cats on now, but haven't had an issue, but also not a lot of mileage. The way I figure it, sport cats shouldn't impact things...

Thanks for the offer. I have stock headers on my 360CS, but I'll be your Guinni pig on my 355.

You'd have to send test pipes too.

wish I were you. my 2001 has the same setup & have o2 heater codes after bigdaddies installed. had to get a wavier for emissions, can not get mil off & readiness at the same time. by the way fabspeed headers did not fit for s@#t, mount holes did not line up with studs on heads. in fairness to fabspeed i'm sure they have corrected the problem by now. love the sound & quicker response, none the less if I have to put stock manifolds back on, it won't be a fun job.
