Has anyone been to the pre-historics held the weekend before the big event? Laguna's website mentions it but has no ticket info or anything else. Is it open to the public with no entrance fee?

Just walk in, no need for any tickets. Easy, less busy and more relaxed than the crazy weekend later.

When does it start Sat and Sun? Sorry if this is obvious info, I couldn't find it on Laguna Seca's website, must need new glasses!

What kind of vehicles do they show at the prehistorics? Flintstone cars?

Also note that up to and including thursday before the historics is also free. I often head there in thursday afternoon after ogling the pebble beach cars in Carmel. Most all the cars will be there, the atmosphere is still relaxed, and you get to watch folks do last minute wrenching on their cars.

On the right side of the Laguna Seca website there is a section called "on the track". Under that click "full schedule" and you will see what's happening on the track each day. Sometimes it is maintenence, sometimes racing school, etc.

I've been to the pre-historics a couple of times. On several occaisions I was able to hang out in the hot-pits, although they might not let you do that nowdays.

I used to just show up at the track the weekend before and you could drive right in. They may charge a fee though so it wouldn't hurt to bring some cash just in case.
