I wanted to get some reaction to publishers promoting new books in advance, collectors not wanting to miss out and pre-ordering (and paying for the book), then waiting for the inevitable delays. I'm not being critical of anyone in particular but am just annoyed that this is happening more often.

I understand this is a niche market with specialty publishers and dealers but is there a better way to run this railroad?

Covid clearly upset a lot of schedules. I don't mind a delay of a few months, but when a book's scheduled release date is delayed by two years (which has happened in a few cases), then I get a bit upset.

And of course, when an announced book is then cancelled altogether, that's even worse.

Some have preorders to establish customer demand and adjust the copies produced accordingly.

Here in Australia, V8 Sleuth a publisher that specialises on the topic of Australian Touring Cars/ V8 Supercars have pre- orders going for nearly a year or longer to do exactly that.

Covid is just a cheap excuse, totally silly.
It is the publisher that is responsible, nobody else.

The excuse of Covid goes far beyond publishing to be honest.
Many delays and shortcuts have been blamed on Covid these days by companies to pander to public sympathy.
