A little more than 86 days left before we can settle down to watch the first GP of the 2006 season in Bahrain. I am getting both bored and anxious.

Part One: What are your predictions for the top three drivers in the 2006 season? (Not who you want to win, who you think really will)

Part Two: Who will drive for Ferrari in 2007?

    My answers:
    1) First: Kimi (Now or never)
Second : Michael (Valiant effort, but car will let him down)
Third: Fred (Renault will make some wrong decisions)

    2) Schumacher/Massa (no changes from 2006) Michael will not retire, and no
way there will be two number 1 drivers on the team.

    3rd: MS
and yes, I also want it in that order

    ad 2)
    Alonso and Rossi

PS: Tifosiron, you mention MS making a Valiant effort. Do you happen to know Michel Vaillant? I'm a big fan of his, seriously.

    Second: Alonso
    Third: Schumy

2007: If the 2006 season ends like this then Kimi and Massa (?)

well, for the 2nd part, i think it depends on felipe himself. if he can shine next season like how's he;s shining in testing now, he'll retain his seat, to be honest..

I'm not going to get sucked into this, not when we're so far out from the season.

I will say one thing though... a Williams driver will be one of the three.

Second part a little more difficult I think if the 2006 season goes well for MS he retires and takes the position of running the team then the drivers are KR and FM

There is no doubt at all!

    1) M. Schumacher
    2) Massa
    3) Alonso

    Why do doubt??
Cause, next year, Ferrari have developed such a great V8, that it will knock everyone off the competition!
    I'm 100% sure about this :)

When you say that, I think it's ridiculous!
I heard that from my friends also "Now that Ferrari has not won 1 year - They will never win again. They will forever make bad cars, from now on"
    - And that sentence irritates me half to dead! So please, explain why ;)

Yea, they’re McLaren! The shortcomings of preseason predicting anything aside McLaren are know for always being able to develop fast cars. But, more importantly they seem to be able to take the inevitable "stinker" turn around and produce a fast car in a time frame that other teams can't seem to do.

Never, never count McLaren out. To me they're always the spoiler.

I don't disagree, but I think to say they are going to dominant at this point is a bit premature. If anything, I'd think people should be putting their money on Schumi.

Well, I read in the paper today where Schumi is skipping his usual holiday this time of year and planning on getting right into the new car to begin testing. He said that in previous years he had felt that a vacation was well-earned, but not so this year. So, if there were any doubts as to the motivation of MS, let notice be served!

To answer some of your questions, no I do not know of Michael Valliant.

The reason I feel that the car will let down MS is because Ferrari is not building back from a second or third place car, the 2005 Ferrari was a fourth or fifth place car at best. If it were not for the gift of Inidanapolis, MS would not have finished third in points. My assumption, which I hope is wrong, is that Ferrari will have much catching up to do in the chassis department.

So the car, may not handle well right "out of the box". And the points from those first few races have a major effect on the season.

I hope it is Mike and Phil show that prevails this year, but..........

I have no problem putting money on Shumi, it's the Ferrari part that has me worried!!!

For all of their recent past glory I think Ferrari did a piss-poor job of turning the car around this past year. Let's face it, if you take Indy out of the equation Ferrari would be behind Toyota. That's not taking anything away from Toyota. I think they deserved to be ahead of the red cars.

Let me put the McLaren argument this way. If McLaren had designed and been in charge of the F2005 I'd argue it would have been a good deal more competitive at the end of the season (hell they probably would have chucked it and designed a new car by midseason).

For all of it's brain power and resources Ferrari should have turned that car around by the end of the season. The seasons past had purely been an exercise in evolution. They'd designed a brilliant car then over the next few years refined it more and more. Darwin would have been proud. The car came on the scene as the dominant design and due to the stability of the rules Ferrari were able to evolve it at an equal pace to it's rivals and stay out ahead. Last year didn't allow them to do so. But, during those same years that Ferrari was refining, McLaren were forced into an evolutionary process themselves. (Darwin would have been even prouder.) That was to refine and reduce the amount of time to bring a car from inception to fruition. They as an organization evolved to a higher level as they were fighting to regain the advantage to get to the top. As Ferrari were already there they simply needed to continue with their already successful program.

Ferrari will have help this year with their tire program from the extra feedback from Toyota and Williams. Schumi is certainly cracking the whip himself, already back in testing before the first of the year. It's been a while since we've seen that. It still remains if the Ferrari organization has been able to adapt to the new unstable rules environment. I for one enjoy the instability as it allows me to view the problem solving and evolution of the cars on a much faster timetable.

Yes Ferrari and MS are currently at the top of the preseason testing heap but don't forget that Toyota and Williams are on a much, much larger learning curve with their new cars as they're adapting them to new rubber. IMO Ferrari should be a lot faster compared to the two.

well, to be honest, i think ferrari can bounce back. i don;t have any doubt about that. common, just after 1 season of failure, doesn't mean they'll be failure forever. look at mac for example. they were firing blanks for the past 3-4 seasons. but they came back real strongly in '05. another thing. the reason ferrari didn't turn the car around, as they pointed out, it wasn;t worthy anymore. they started focusing on the '06 season early. partly due to the fact that the whole chassis was struggling due to the BS tires, as well as the damn 1 tyre rule. now that everythings changed for the 06 season, i'm expecting fireworks from ferrari.

They were too busy placing blame and pointing fingers at Bridgestone. Not many tifosi questioned the car itself.
McLaren will have a hard time doing this in the future with the departure of Adrian Newey. The feeling of impending dominance went bye-bye when this news hit the wire.
Thanks in part to switching to Michelin.
Agreed, though Bridgestone turned it around towards the end of the season which then uncovered problems with the car itself.
