Predictions on porsche carrera GT value

They're going up now.....new ones are gone, except for a few hiding out in collector's warehouses, and low-mileage examples are selling, yes, selling, for over $400,000. I bet they will cap the $500k mark.....but not much more. The car still is the best Porsche ever made, and, while it is a very hard car to drive, with a pro in it, will take on an Enzo any day of the week.

 

I think values are actually still going south a bit and are closer to $300k than $400k. They are sold out, but the last cars produced were not easy to sell and I think some were sold at a discount. It does hold up well against the Enzo, but there are close to 1000 more C-Gt's out there.

 

Some WERE sold at big discounts, but that was 6 months ago. Values are going up, and it is nearly impossible to find a car, even with miles, for less than $350k, let alone $300k.

 

What was that Jaguar so-called-exotic mid-engine a few years back that initially got little respect? Somebody told me they are starting to pick up a little just out of the rarity.

Maybe the CGT will follow this kind of path?

 

You're thinking XJ220. 1992-94 IIRC.

 

I'd guess that the CGT, like the Ford GT, isn't going to go through the roof in the near future just because nearly all of them have been preserved with extremely low mileage, and because there are more desirable toy-car options for the super-rich (who are remaining liquid in the real estate slowdown/meltdown).

I wouldn't compare it to an Enzo or F40, which have a fanatical following.

 

The F40 also has motorsport pedigree which always makes a car that little bit more prized and collectable.

 

You can readily buy them with a 3 as the first number in the price. Pay anymore than that and you're asking for it.

 

Could be the last relatively nanny-free supercar we'll see. Stick shift, too. First-rate attention to detail. Makes the right sounds. Local herd headed yonder. Suspect you'd be able to get your $ back at today's # if/when you decide to bail.

 

I thought they were sellng in the $330k's? My P dealer was all over me to pick one up but the car scared the hell out of me so I passed out of fear that I would be seriously injured or worse if I owned the car.

 

XJ220's are going for a song compared to list at 1 Mil ; 200k now.
Expect a $25k full service and major parts NLA.
I'm waiting for the Boxer and XJR-15 prices to cross then I'll get the Jag.

 

Was at my local dealer on Monday and spoke with the GM.
He said the CGT is all about color.
The only color that has depreciated significantly is silver because there are so many.
They just sold a used black one for sticker price. He said black, red and white hold value.

 

From what i have heard the XJ220 never really lived up to they hype. They were originally supposed to have a v12 but that was scrapped. The 220 in the name was supposed to idicate the top speed, but it never could get there. While it is a very rare car, I don't think it will ever be as collectable as it should be. A few pics of one are included below.

The CGT is a differeent beast. It came at the time of other supercars. I think it will go down as a very underated car simply because it came out at the same time as the Enzo, SLR, Veryon and LP640. But if you see it next to these cars you will realize it does everything right. It has the performance to hang with the best in the world, details and body work that will put the Enzo to shame and like a real drivers car, it has a traditional manual. I have seen a few CGTs in the flesh and pictures really do not do the car justice. It really does have a presence.

I know someone who was recently looking for a CGT, but had trouble finding one because he hated the silver. I don't blame him.

Even the seal gray looks better than the plain silver.

 

I think an F40 comparison is reasonable. . . aside from the initial price peak of course, the car has only just recently approached its MSRP again and that's not even adjusted for inflation. The Carrera GT has no real reasons to go up in price because of the quantity of quality cars available, much like the F40 was. Basing it on the F40, you could predict a gradual bottoming out of price before it becomes more of a classic and begins to gradually rise again. And to think that Porsche lacks a fanatical following is to severely underestimate Porsche

 

I don't think the CGT has gotten the love and respect it deserves. The only problem with it is that they released it at the same time as so many other great supercars.

 

What and the XJ220 wasn't? It was released at about the same time as the F40, Bugatti EB110 and a couple of years later the Porsche GT1.

What's hurt the CGT is its snap over-steer. The car is known to be a handful at the limit. At the speeds the car is able to achieve there are many other cars to choose from that make a "safer" ride. That feeling of safety and confidence usually translates to a more satisfying drive. That's the problem.

 

Could add to the legend over time.

 

i think they will drop as more come to market from people who over extended themselves based on market bonuses. these are trickling onto the market, but when you can't afford that next payment and you have amortgage and..... the cars go first.
