Just for fun on this lazy dreary Sunday.......

IF Ferrari were to announce that they were going to bring back an earlier model with a modern design yet still retain obvious design cues of its original......... which of these models had you prefer to see them resurrect? I am sticking to later models that would be instantly recogizable to the general public as being Ferraris....plus I wouldn't mess with the design perfection of some of the earlier cars such as the 250 GTO and California...and we have already seen a modern P4. I would personally love to see a 308 or 288 redo.

And the most predominant feature of those two cars are of course the rear foil so those would have to remain...........yes?

    308/328.

Small, light, emphasis on gorgeous curves, purely mechanical - no computerized nonsense.

Agreed, but it will never happen again.

Airbags, European pedestrian safety regs, windscreen position regs, modern competitors, demand for luxurious cockpits with power everything, crash test issues ... if you want the modern interpretation of the 328, it's called the 360: big, complicated, comfy, lots of computers, etc.

I wish they'd leave all these cars alone and do something new, with some inspiration from Lotus (light, tossable, simple). Let's leave the retro stuff to Ford (T-Bird, Mustang, GT), MINI, VW, etc.

I'd like to see a newer 328 GTS. Four traditional tail-lamps and exhaust outlets with a small, high-revving V-8. The design doesn't look very dated even today.

I'll be the first to say Testarossa.

I think the 430 is the modern interpretation of the 308.... 308->328->348->355->360->430. I think that you can see the minor changes with every model and the end results of today are fairly different than the starting point, but its the same model range.

Same with the supercars - 288->F40->F50->Enzo. What would a modern version of an F50 be if not an Enzo? Whats a modern F40 if not an F50?

IMO you can't really say the same about the TR, because Ferrari turned a sporty superlooker in the TR into more of a sedate looking GT car with the 550. Then they turned it back into a super performance car (but still with toned down looks) in the 599. I'd like to see a revision of the full size rear-engine V12 GT car with supercar performance AND looks.

    Just my .02

    Mike,

What you say is partly true, imo.

The 430 compared to a 308 has grown in size considerably. The 308 is a small car, nimble. That's what I am looking for in a good sportscar. I don't want to cover vast distances, I want to take it out for fun. Together with the mechanical and electronic evolution, the spirit has moved away from the fun factor to creature comforts. I am not saying that a 430 isn't fun, but the 'fly by the seat of your pants' feeling has gone. Too big, too many gadgets and stuf that deters from what it once was, an uncomplicated sportscar.

The TR wass never a sportscar, was always a GT, but with the engine midships. The 550 was in many respects a vast improvement on the theme, albeit in a different format. I quite like the looks of the 550, , better so than the 599, but can imagine that the Boxer/TR crowd are yearning for a car with a 12 midships.

From another thread I understand that F is moving back to smaller and lighter cars. I'm much looking forward to that, independent of the looks, which, I'm sure, will be carrying style elements of days gone by in a modern package.

    Happy motoring,

    Jack V.
