4 weeks ago, I bought an 06' f430 from a private party Nevada. I topped off the tank on the way home and I noticed in Nevada that premium gas is rated 92 octane.

I arrived back home here in Newport Beach, CA, I filled up again at my usual Mobil station near my house and of course premium is only rated 91 octane here in CA, I haven't seen 92 here in CA since the 1990's as I recall. Not sure why they lowered it here, but they did.

I pulled out the owners manual and Ferrari recommends gas with AT LEAST 91 octane. I have filled the tank an additional time now using Mobil premium and can't tell any difference when I was driving on the 92 octane or the 91 octane. I did notice that the Union 76 station not far from my house sells 101 octane "Racing Fuel" for $9.99 per gallon.

Does anybody add octane boost to their gas? Has anybody tried the "Racing Fuel" from Union 76? Does it make a difference? Does anybody know if you can still get 92 octane here in CA? On the Mobil gas pump, there is a sticker that states the gas is made up of at least 10% Ethanol, not sure if that affects anything or not? Thanks for any response.

You should be fine with 91 Premium. Hard to get 92 or 93 anywhere, afaik. Racking fuel will be too much without a tuned engine.

We have 100 octane avgas near my house at 4.50 a gallon. If you have that in Cali, try mixing the fuels every now and then. Inasmuch as we have 93 octane,I see no difference running that vs 100 avgas in my Scud.

Thanks for your posts and especially the link to SoCal 100 Octane pump gas locations! I'm going to check them out near me and try a mix of the gas, the octane mix calculator on the website is very handy. Thanks again!

The engine has good real time knock sensors so 91 is fine.

I wouldn't use avgas in my Ferrari. Avgas is 100 octane low lead. Lead can harm catalytic converters and probably engine components.

Yep..what he said. although the lead actually acts as an additional lubricant for the motor, the lead is bad on the cats.

91 is fine for stock or light mod cars.

Dont buy octane booster in a bottle from auto stores. They don't work. You will need like 6-8 bottles for a tank. At that point, you might as well buy 100 octane.
