When I got my first 911 (996 Carrera 4) I was very disappointed. It was fun to drive and way cool to look at (I used to think) but it was big and heavy. Heated seats, wood-trim on the steering wheel, navigation, a kickin' sound system, a front differential -- it made the car sort of bloated. I dumped that for another 911 -- this time a 993 Carrera S.

I love that car. It was one of my favorite cars ever. (Right, JC?)

That Carrera S led me down the path of a bunch of other cars, also Porsches: some with much, much more power. Others with much, much less power (and much, much less weight).

To me, Ferrari's are very much like that Carrera S. I love them to death for their beauty and the way they make me feel -- behind the wheel and when I look at them. Beautiful to look at, wonderously fun to drive, powerful, brilliant exhaust note -- a form of driving that is not enjoyed or appreciated by too many people. It's a different interpretation of that same philosophy of art, performance, engineering, etc. that we ALL love.

The Gallardo reminds me of the 996. Comfortable. Moderne. Refined. Almost elegant. But when you get on it, it paints a completely different picture -- a picture that reminds me of the 993. It's really is the best of both worlds.

True, they are completely different driving dynamics. Different feel. Dramatically different look. Different -- everything. But having both a comfortable automobile with creature comforts galore that can exhibit such performance -- it's a dream come true.

I've put 180 miles on the Gallardo -- 258 miles total on the clock. The car is amazing. The power is so dramatically different than the Ferrari. The handling, because of the 4 Wheel Drive (not the Porsche 5% in the front until you need it), the car can do some amazing things. Of course, there's lots the car cannot do because of that same feature. For the time being, I'm happy to have it.

In many ways, though the Gallardo makes me want to get back on the track. That sense of ... life. That's what it's all about.

Here are some pics from Crystal Cove. (Taken by Jay - nocturne1)

    - Gallardo Motor (Yum!)
    - Me & my Shadow
    - A moment of silence for whatever that stain was
    - What is he sticking on that car?
    - :) (Yup, the Ferrari EC is on the car)

another wise decision you mean? I dont understand why you guys disapprove of good cars, there are very few bad things about the gallardo. I dont dislike the fact you bought ferraris, everyone buys cars for their own reasons and uses the facilities they like to use. People like to go out of their way to express disapproval on this board. (coming from me who doesn't ever like anything) LETS STOP THE HATING! Everyone buy what you want where you want and lets all go out and have fun. :)

    Back on subject,
Emil enjoy the car I agree with your very subjective observations on the G-car.

    first off,
by "biting the dust" i meant switching over to the dark side, i've had seat time in a gallardo, though not a lot, but a couple of trips as passenger and driver, its a fast car, no doubt about it, but it doesnt do it for me.. So I say it.. IMO 30-40K more (depending on how much you paid for it) for a 6.0 would be much more fun, I'm not blinded by the marque in anyway, i almost pulled the trigger on a murci!
rob, its not a matter of approval or disapproval, my approval or disapproval dont mean **** anyway, I was trying to convince Emil to buy a CS because I remember how much fun he was having when he drove my car and thought he'd be happy with that, but if he's happy with the g-car, I'm happy he's happy
