Any tricks for not harming finish on fresh Koni's? You've got nice bushing tools, but any tips on how to protect finish at contact site? Thinking Masking tape / electrical tape / clean sheet of paper / grease / poly bag ???

I know the scratching is minimal, and you can always touch up, but it would feel cool to just press them in, and be perfect.

    Thanks!!

Other than ideas you've already explored and which most will not likely guarantee "perfect", easiest way to avoid refinish imperfections is to install bushings before refinishing and mask them prior to application of paint.
I've struggled more with this type of issue when working on something while trying to preserve and protect original finishes, often requiring to more complicated and elaborate efforts than jobs where everything is refinished/restored "fresh".
