Dave, Furoni answered my post (saying that I would not like to emigrate there anymore, even if the girls remain beautiful) with some considerations about the political situation in his own country. The said post seems to have been removed since. I'm really sorry if my own post has somehow led my good friend Pedro to get a one day ban. My own post was not intended to be political, only to say that the "atmosphere" has changed a lot in Russia in ten years, even if it is still a country where the girls are beautiful; but not a place I would like to emigrate nowadays. By the way, I have NEVER managed to see any Ferrari in the flesh in Moscow or anywhere else, in at least fifteen trips there. Lamborghinis, yes; Bentleys by the dozens (especially Continental GTs); German SUVs by hundreds. But a F-Car in the flesh and on the move, never, ever. And my guess is, as for the nearest thing (Lamborghinis), that they cannot leave the city of Moscow due to the incredibly pot-holed roads in Russia. That is interesting - I never thought of the lack of drivable roads outside of Moscow. Maybe that's why the really wealthy Russians keep their playthings in Monaco or London.... Cheers
On the other hand, taxi drivers are still used to change tyres almost daily, and almost as fast as the Formula One mechanics...some of them are really incredible at this, as experienced by yours truly one day on the road to Shermetievo Airport: I was fearing I would miss my plane, but he did the change in about a minute without even asking me to step out of the car! But yes, if you have to drive outside cities, you need a big SUV, and Four-Wheel Drive is mandatory. Not to say anything about Siberia, because you have to see it to believe it. (Of course, they are not helped by the fact that everything is frozen for six or seven months, and that every spring the thaw is really an incredible mess (the famous "Rasputitsa"). Rgds
+1 I saw a Grancabrio with Russian plates in...Paris a few Russian registered F cars in Geneva and in Riga Latvia there are Ferraris as well as big new Bentleys, not just Continentals all on Russian plates, usually parked in front of the best real estate, the historic art deco buildings...and Latvian girls are as stunning and feminine -and fiery tempered!- as Russian ones but they have EU passports
