I am planning on purchasing a Stebro X pipe for my '99 550 w/ a Tubi exhaust. The resonance from the Tubi is becoming intolerable, anyone who has experience with regard to resonance, from adding the X pipe to an early Tubi would be appreciated.

I'm running a custom X-Pipe in my 456GT. I tried the Stebro route, but could never get it delivered. 3 weeks turned into three months and three months turned into a credit card dispute. You can take a pre-fab'd X-pipe from any number of exhaust fabricators, i.e Magnaflow, Burns Stainless etc. and have a exhaust shop cut out the center resonator and install the unit. Took my guy about 1 hour

With my stock exhaust, the X-pipe made the sound more "thumper," but the 456 is muted by design, so I installed a custom "tube only" set up. Basically I took the rear muffler boxes off and have a straight exhaust set up. Now the car sounds like an old F1 12 cylinder running at Monterey (when I want it) and only slightly louder around the O.C.

Below is a sound file of a very expensive exhaust set up ($9.4K) and in my opinion, my 456GT sounds better than this, which is pretty good at a fraction of the cost.

Finally, I was at Crystal Cove today and now know what people mean when they say the sound of the 550/575 is hard on the ears at low RPM's. It is almost like the sound pressure created when you turn the treble to -10 and turn up the bass to +10.

I have CG, and my stebro has been sitting in the garage for months waiting to be installed... should be incredible.

BTW, resonance from TUBI is likely a bad install. Search the archives...
