I made a bracket out of 2mm stainless steel to prevent the rotation of the shaft at the top of the offside (RH) front shockabsorber on my 550.It can be fitted in situ by removing the actuator and two nuts and washers. My car is RHD and I also removed the aircleaner cover, intake pipe with flow valve, rotated the air intake elbow upwards and also some ignition leads and cabling for engine management attached to same to get some clearance. The large nut 17mm in the centre of the serrated cup washer can be rotated to get the washer underneath the cup in the correct position(flats parallel to the sides of the car) to fit the bracket. While I did this the actuator gear fell off in two pieces,I was able to remove the remains using a 1.5mm drill held in longnosed smallish visegrips as a punch and tap the roll pin out of the shaft,I fitted a new gear after I put the roll pin into the gear until it almost reached the edge of the centre hole (this was done off the car on a clean bench ),then put the gear on the shaft and used the 1.5mm drill to line up the hole in the gear and the shaft (which is tiny,4mm, and down in the centre of the serrated cup washer) .I used the vicegrips to hold a short punch about 25mm long made out of a nail with a short 1.5 mm hole drilled in it (about 3-4mm long),this fits over the short part of the rollpin which is projecting out of the gear and helps to start the driving of the rollpin into the shaft, once partly in I turned the nail back to front to drive the pin in further and finally finished with the 1.5mm drill so that the pin is flush with both sides of the gear(I used a small engineers hammer to do the tapping). The reassembly is straight forward, the actuator needs to be wiggled to get the internal gear in line with the gear on the shaft and then the clips cables pipes etc all come together. The sketch is approx and the height of the offset has to suit the washer which it mates with so you may have to put the bracket on and off a few times

I believe FChatter WBLink had his mechanic come up with a solution, which I purchased from them. Like yours, worked beautifully to prevent windup!

maranello skunkworks solved it long ago with better ride as a side-effect. The solution is now in the hands of DeltaVee who is doing the conversions.

I wonder if 456s have the same issue?
