A neighbor claims that they can't log into Windows because an old OS might have kicked in.

They went to boot the computer and the Welcome screen asks for a password from someone they don't know.

Also when the computer is turned on it starts as usual and shows the desktop back ground but no icons show, no cursor, the keyboard lights for number lock etc don't come on, can't get the task manager, nothing doing. Then after about 20 seconds, it boots you to the Welcome screen {you didn't see it the first time, after start up it just zipped you to the desktop}, and asks for a password for "Caleb". When you click on his name, a voice tells you the function {or something similar} has failed.

WTF? The computer shops here are closed until Monday, show we just put the Windows cd in and start from scratch?

I would like to know what happened, if anyone has an idea feel free to post it.

sounds like a Halloween (spooky) virus or something is misbehaving very badly. Should be able to boot to Safe mode and pull the data off before re-installing Windows. At least that'd be my response.

I don't have the key sequence to boot into Safe Mode at hand - but good luck.

    Thanks for the helpful advice.

    Not so much :(

Also you can't type in a password guess, it simply won't let you select the "name box".

Still no luck with anything. It looks like a Monday morning drop off.
