Hi, I am also looking for a 355. Yours is one of the lower prices I have seen, although everyday there are some new low ones on ebay. I ran a carfax on this car as part of my search and everything there looks fine, no accidents or odometer weirdness, but you should look at it too in case I missed something-also, I suppose, just because an accident isn't reported doesn't mean one didn't happen. I am looking for a GTS or Spider so I wasn't that careful when looking at the carfax results. Don't know where you have looked. I have looked at a bunch of different places including Hemmings, CraigsList, FerrariAds here, FerrariMarketLetter, Ferraris-Online, the355.com and Ferrari Club of America newsletter (I think) that was it. Now there are some Ebay auctions for these cars without reserves, one of those is currently at $43K. But I think your car is at the low end of what people are asking for these cars. And this is just what this guy is asking in contrast to cars on Ebay, for instance, where the "Buy it now" price allows no/limited room for haggling. The one other car I saw, in my travels, that had a suspiciously low asking price, was a Triple Black convertible in Shavertown PA, that had been in an accident, it was on Ebay. I don't see it there now so maybe it was removed. In the Ebay listing there was no mention of an accident, but CarFax had it. Unless you are desperate for a specific car/color etc. combination, time and patience are probably your friends. It seems like prices are dropping and maybe you should wait until they stabilize. I called a reputable dealership about a 355 yesterday and the salesman in Connecticut tried to interest me in a 360. The low numbers on 360s are dipping to where the high numbers on 355s used to be. In this case it was a coupe for 98K. I'm already stretching as originally my search began for a 328. So I am not saying anything about this low price is suspicious. Just that it is on the low end of the range I have been seeing in the past weeks. Caveat Emptor.
Caveat Emptor indeed, but if the valve guides and cylinder readings all come out ok with a PPI, I would say it is one hell of a deal. MB
I basically agree. To the OP - For 355s, the wisdom here is that it's best to find the best car(s) first, and then worry about the price. For ANY Fcar purchase, a PPI - Pre Purchase Inspection, needs to be done by an experienced Ferrari mechanic before you will really know the condition, and know what the car is worth. A lot can crop up on a 355 in even a year after a proper major service; some of it very expensive. As far as 360's, I don't know this car personally, so don't know details of it's life or condition. But prices on 360's are softening, that's for sure! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250325756749&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=
This a listing from Denning on the values of the 355 for 6 months , 1 year and 2 years, no years indicated just overall model. Looks like prices have dropped. 355 Berlinetta 73,593 73,252 0.47% 76,636 -3.97% 78,824 -6.64% 355 GTS 77,624 79,509 -2.37% 80,222 -3.24% 84,092 -7.69% 355 Spider 80,424 89,027 -9.66% 89,645 -10.29% 92,332 -12.90%
Odd color, green blue metallic. Could be why it is priced where it is. Definitely get the PPI because there are lots of little things that can hurt you in a 355. Otherwise could be a great deal. I like the '95's the best.
