I've been eyeing this car for a few weeks now. Triple black, sports seats with gated 6 sp and 34000 miles. Last service was about 18 months ago including belts, brake pads, annual service. No history of clutch change. Overall condition was very clean in and out with minimal wear showing. Light fogging of head light lenses. Drove very well. I anticipate that the car will need a clutch and new headers shortly. Their asking price is around 83,000. Any opinions what this car should sell for? Car can be seen at Thanks Mark

If, as you say, it needs a new clutch and headers, then you need to factor them into the price.

I bought a 03 spider with 26K miles in July for $79K. Triple black, all options, upgraded modular wheels. Newish clutch, needed nothing when I bought it.

*BUT* - even though the PPI did not identify it, within 200 miles of getting the car I started to have F1 transmission issues. Car has been in the shop for a total of almost 8 weeks (part of it because I did not push on a more aggressive fix as I was traveling/busy to deal with the car) and required 2 potentiometers on the actuator arm. Each of those is about 2.5K + labor, etc.

So I'm in above 85K when all said and done.

What are the potentiometers? Is this only with F1 clutch?

Yes, these are two sensors that tell the F1 ECU what gear the car is in. I'd buy the 6spd manual version in hindsight.

The whole F1 system is nice when it works, huge nightmare when it doesn't especially because you cannot troubleshoot it even in basic functionality by yourself (you need the high end debug computers: SD2/3, Leonardo, ST5, etc.)

Don't be ridiculous. I live in Italy and high mileage cars sell here all the time. Of course, the mileage is always one of many considerations when deciding on a selling price, but 50k miles is not some sort of price cliff.

Maybe things are different where you live but I can tell you with some certainty that in the rest of the world, people are NOT giving away Ferraris with 51k miles nor are they sitting on the showroom floor for years and years.

I don't know whether it needs a clutch now. It drove very strong with no evidence of slippage
I just feel that based on milage that one will be needed soon. How far can these manual clutches go? Mark

The PPI should show clutch wear. 34,000 is probably about right. Mine was replaced at 22,000.

I do not see any reason that clutches on these cars don't last well in the 75K+ mileage....to be honest, these cars don't make that much power, so either Ferrari did a piss poor job of telling the company that provides the clutch the expected power output, or the company makes an inferior product.

The 360 puts out 400 hp/270 tq, right? That is, give a 15% drivetrain loss, that is 360 rwhp/230 rwtq.....I cannot believe the rate that people are replacing these clutches or the lifespan....

So, if you have a manual, drive it until it starts to slip....

Thank you all for your responses. Can the clutch be visually inspected since there is no SD2 read out for a manual trans? Mark

I would think it depends on the driver as well....one that holds the clutch in at stop lights compared to slipping the car out of gear while the light is red kinda driver...some are much harder on a clutch than others. I don't think you can visually inspect the manual clutch unless you pull the transaxle to see the disk...
