I think the most expensive TR ever was sold here in Brazil not long ago... The car pictured in the article below sold at auction for BRL 463,000, which is just about US$ 222,500...

That's a lot of money. And the car has only got 11,000 Km's on the clock, but has probably been sitting for a while... I can't imagine it has been taken care of properly, mechanically, but then again cosmetically it's supposed to be looking very good.

Two identical TR's were seized by the Brazilian IRS, I think they were illegally imported, and were carrying identical license plates. That's why this car was at auction, and I think the next one will be too, soon. Starting bid was the more reasonable sum of 180,000 Reais, roughly US$90,000. Still high, though...

It's certainly a fluke, but this perhaps will give some of you guys an idea of how relative things are in the Ferrari pricing world... Think about the other Ferraris you could buy for the same amount of money in your neck of the woods...

Here's the article in portuguese, if you can read it (or would like to try...or would like to have google translate it for you)

There was a TR at at 2012 Monterey Car Week auctions that went for $95K and another that went for over $200K (if I remember right) that had almost 0 miles.

    It was an auction.

Cars were imported illegally, whoever did it pretty much deserved the impounding.

And then we all know how auctions work...as long as someone's bidding..

The reason it was imported "illegally" is because Brazil has ridiculous taxes when it comes to importing foreign goods, especially cars. Absolutely no reason to force Brazilians to pays almost double for the same product one can buy in France, US, UK etc. So yes, that is government theft.

Pretty funny you think they deserved to have it impounded. Why so? Is a Testarossa a danger to the population?

No, it's because they were probably imported by people whose crimes are worse than illegally importing Ferraris.

I agree about the tax bit.

This is home, though, and I love it here...pros and cons included...
